They gotta do something to make this work -- I don't want them to flip Schenn or sell low on him, but at some point, this situation has to get resolved. Schenn has to play better, and they have to let him play through stuff

It has to be both

- AllInForFlyers

He's played wing with Giroux and Voracek, albeit for a brief period, but that didn't even work.

Cripes, if you can't step your game up flanking those two, where else could you?

It was mental last night
They sat back on the lead

Game 1 against the Bruins. I thought they played a good hard game, and were just narrowly beaten by a better team.

Game 2, I thought they also competed, played hard. But had some bad puck luck, and made some poor decisions. Not happy about but can deal with it.

Last night, after controlling the majority of play, and were the better team through two periods. Only to stop playing. I can't handle that, and can't stomach that.

I watched the game. Yes they played better in the first 40 mins and Montreal also played very poorly at times as well. But even then, there were long sequences where they were hemmed into their own end.

The danger signs are there, to come out utterly flat in the home opener, to completely stop skating in the 3rd last night are very worrisome. It seems like after losing to Boston on a fluke goal and seeing Coburn go down, they are just wilting under adversity. Outside of Wayne Simmonds and to a lesser extent Couturier on the PK, who is stepping up and taking charge?

Lack of talent I can live with, I'm cool with building patiently from within. Lack of heart though is inexcusable.

There were only a couple of shifts in the first two periods. Montreal is a good team, have to expect them to have some good shifts.

Exactly, where was the leadership in the 3rd period? Who stood up and lead the way, to turn it around?

I'm willing to give it some more time but i'm starting to get worried this will turn into another JVR scenario. ie Guy won't find his game until he has to deal with the aspect of being dealt.

for 2 freaking games? really??? it took the great giroux 15 (frank)ing games to score a goal last year should we have demoted him to the 4th line after game 2?

It starts with skating hard on the forecheck, and playing hard defensively. If he does that, the rest will follow.

Not sure how to stop it. Maybe move up Coots to the second line and bring up Laughlin to center the third if Vinnie is out?

BSchenn is not a quality center.

- 77rams

then what is B Schenn?

Man, I have no idea -- that's how I know I don't understand how young players think.

Because if I was Brayden Schenn, I'd be thinking, "Wow. I scored 20 goals last year bouncing around the lineup. But if I do well here, next to Giroux and Voracek, maybe I could get 40 -- Scott Hartnell had 37! I want to be better than Hartnell! I want to keep this spot!"

But clearly, they don't approach it like that.

I think being able to set the expectations lower would help.

This team, on paper and on the ice isn't really a pretty photo. When time comes around for them to establish themselves as a cup contender for a few years and for that window to open many of the current squad wont be on the team.

Much like last season, I am using it to evaluate the younger kids on the team. How they play, and what tier they fall on will determine what this team still needs for the future and how far off it lies.

Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds are locks down the road and rightfully so. It remains to be seen if Couturier can elevate himself to develop an offensive game and be a #2 center. I am looking at that.

Brayden Schenn, and Luke as well for that matter just look ugly. Not sure they stick around even as complementary pieces.

A lot of the other boys, and frankly in my mind a lot of these games are sadly irrelevant. A hard road for the future, but a necessary one.

BSchenn is a good 2nd line Center and an average 2nd line LW. I dont think he'll develop much further than that, which is fine. But the Flyers i think went into this season expecting too much of him.

The Flyers are still under this spell believing they can make 4 centers work on three lines. What they really need is a pure LW or at least someone better suited to play 1st LW more so than Schenn. In that respect I feel the front office has to bear part of the blame here too.

The Leafs think they will win every season only to have it come crashing down at the worst time.

Much like a Western Conference team.

The first period was somewhat evenly played, despite the 2 goal outburst. There were a few sequences where Montreal controlled play. But the second was the Flyers period. They were very good. The third was a disaster.

Any heart, skill or smarts vanished in that third

Agreed -- at some point, if the kid isn't productive playing wing, it's not a crime to trade him for a winger

Because it's not the name, it's the position that needs to be productive

The one thing with these young guys, is there comes a time where you want to see more. Patience is one thing, but imo it cannot be never ending. There are plenty of players that come into the league young, and find ways to impress.

He may not deserve it but I think its the right move. You've bounced Brayden Schenn around the line-up in his whole tenure with the team. That was a mistake, as was playing him with an anchor in LeCavalier for much of last year.

There is nobody in my mind that can unseat him as of now. Unless someone believes Raffl can be a guy that puts the puck into the net with any consistency. Until a FA or prospect comes around that has a real shot, or real potential at being a viable long term candidate for #1 LW, its Schenn's for now.

His time is running out though.
