B. Schenn's start to this season has zero to do with playing the Wing, versus playing Center. And everything to do with the work ethic he is bringing to the ice, in my opinion.

They don't need to let him play Center or move his ass. B Schenn simply needs to move his ass.

There's gotta be something there, MJL -- this kid was given the job of playing next to a Hart Trophy finalist, in the first game of a season.

If his work ethic is effed up now...what do you even do with that? It doesn't get any better than that! If he can't figure that out, if his work ethic can't be trusted in Games 1 & 2, what are the Flyers supposed to do?

I don't think his lack of effort right now is permanent. I think he's just in a funk right now. For whatever reason. The entire team with the exception of Emery went into a funk in the 3rd period. The way that B Schenn is playing right now, it wouldn't matter is he was at center or wing.

In my view there are different kinds of mistakes. In the Devils game, Lecavalier busted it and backchecked all the way to the net. Unfortunately he lost awareness for a second, and screened the goalie. But the effort was there.
On the Zubrus game winning goal, Voracek left Zubrus, who he was right next to, and skated hard on the back check to a man that L. Schenn already had. Forcing Schenn to have to try and get over to Zubrus to block the shot, and he was late. That was a mistake bu Voracek, but even so, he made a great hustle effort to back check.

Then there are the lazy and lack of effort mistakes such as B Schenn's pathetic effort on the Plekanec goal sequence.

Mistakes with effort I can live with. The other kind, no excuse for it and it shouldn't be tolerated.

He's really looking lost. I was hoping he'd come in full of piss & vinegar, but he's playing passive, looking unagressive and not seizing his opportunity

I really don't want to -- I don't think anybody want to blame the player. We all want him to do well. When he wasn't on that line in the second and third period of the NJ game, I know I was hoping that it was simply because Berube wanted to shake things up.

I definitely didn't want to believe that somehow, he played his way off the line in 4 periods -- how does that even happen?

But clearly, that's not the case -- it's Berube who's dropping bombs on Schenn, and if he's on it that fast, something's just not right

He will still be able to keep his conditioning up but it won't be easy for him to maintain his weight.

Shame for the kid.

Bottom line for me is that right now, they just aren't a good team. That doesn't mean that they can't be a good team this season. But a good team doesn't lose that game. They were in complete control of the game through two periods. Then they decided to stop playing, and stand around and watch the Habs take shooting practice on Emery. How does that happen? They looked like they were scared. Either that, or they thought the Habs were going to just give up in the 3rd period. That's a disgusting loss. Two points were in the bag. Skate and check and get the puck deep and the game is over! Frustrating.
- MJL

You're right, they aren't that good, nor do they have the quality defensive depth to remotely absorb the loss of Timonen and Coburn.

Their forwards, while certainly a better group than the D, still have holes as well. Another highly skilled winger would be nice, they can still use more size and speed, and while they have a lot of centers, none are as of yet really stepping up to be that #2 pivot behind Giroux

I feel bad for their goalies, they are being thrown to the wolves.

I assume with Vinny injured he will be getting a shot a Center. If he doesnt look any better in that role I think we could see him being moved sooner rather than later.

I'm just so sick of this -- Schenn to the wing, Vinny gets hurt, Schenn back to the middle, Vinny gets healthy, Schenn back to the wing...Schenn inconsistent

This has got to stop. Three games in, and we're already back to the worst elements of last year

Two different issues. Looking at last night's game, forget about personnel changes. For two periods the Flyers with the forwards they have, and with the defense they have. Were easily the better team! Last night's game had zero to do with not having the defensive depth to absorb the loss of Timonen or Coburn. Or needing another highly skilled winger.

It had everything to do with they simply stopped playing, stopped skating, stopped moving their feet. And stopped working. The Habs got to every lost puck, and won all the battles in the 3rd. Completely opposite of the first two periods.

Not for me, he may not be up to speed on the best selections of scotch
- ob18

I can certainly tell you which scotches I like best. Its a very subjective list though, every scotch drinker has their personal favorites.

Some of my faves are:
Glenfiddich 15 year old solera reserve
Johnny Walker Gold (blend) as good as the blue IMO and half the price
Macallan 18 year old
Anything by Laphroaig 12 years or older
Auchentosha Three wood single malt
Yamakazi 12 year single malt, some great scotch is coming out of Japan!
The Balvenie 12 year old

All of the above are fantastic!

Remember that Streit shot that hit him in the foot earlier? He left the arena in a walking boot after the game.

Not sure how to stop it. Maybe move up Coots to the second line and bring up Laughlin to center the third if Vinnie is out?

BSchenn is not a quality center.

They gotta do something to make this work -- I don't want them to flip Schenn or sell low on him, but at some point, this situation has to get resolved. Schenn has to play better, and they have to let him play through stuff

It has to be both

I watched the game. Yes they played better in the first 40 mins and Montreal also played very poorly at times as well. But even then, there were long sequences where they were hemmed into their own end.

The danger signs are there, to come out utterly flat in the home opener, to completely stop skating in the 3rd last night are very worrisome. It seems like after losing to Boston on a fluke goal and seeing Coburn go down, they are just wilting under adversity. Outside of Wayne Simmonds and to a lesser extent Couturier on the PK, who is stepping up and taking charge?

Lack of talent I can live with, I'm cool with building patiently from within. Lack of heart though is inexcusable.
