On a serious note I am frustrated with the schenns.
- JoeRussomanno

Luke has struggled, but he's been better than his numbers suggest. Bryaden has been a big disappointment to me. He doesn't seem to have any jump, he's not being aggressive and his body language looks like a guy who is lacking confidence.

He should be flying out there. He had a great chance to make his mark and be effective with a top line and he didn't do much for it.

I cirticized Schenn, and this dude came back at me with Giroux hasn't been good either. I responded he hadn't, but Giroux has been the leading scorer for 4 years and he carried the team to the playoffs and got back "the past doesn't matter"

My brain hurt.

Bottom line for me is that right now, they just aren't a good team. That doesn't mean that they can't be a good team this season. But a good team doesn't lose that game. They were in complete control of the game through two periods. Then they decided to stop playing, and stand around and watch the Habs take shooting practice on Emery. How does that happen? They looked like they were scared. Either that, or they thought the Habs were going to just give up in the 3rd period. That's a disgusting loss. Two points were in the bag. Skate and check and get the puck deep and the game is over! Frustrating.

Since the advent of the Salary cap, the Flyers have only had 2 years where they didn't have an aging, big, bruising, highly paid, defenseman on a long term contract on LTIR. They are the only team to do so and no other team comes even close.

Holmgren got smoked with Pronger for several reasons.

1 .He traded the equivalent of 4 1st round draft picks + a 2nd for a 33 year old Pronger with 1 year left on his contract with no commitment from Pronger to stay longer.

Which forced him to do #2 :
2. Pronger who had no commitment to stay with the Flyers past the first year and had Holmgren backed into a corner because of the assets given to acquire him. Because of this he was able to extract one of the famed Golden Parachute contracts of that time that just about every team has come to regret and buyout. As a consequence Pronger would be on the books until he was 42.

3. Holmgren's failure to realize Pronger's contract was an over 35 contract and as such couldn't be written off when Pronger retired presumably after the big money years at the age of 40.

4. Pronger's eventual concussion retirement. While not his fault the signs were already there that Pronger was experiencing more injuries and that physically he was beginning to break down little by little. Very common among aging physical defensemen.

Holmgren didn't get smoked with the Pronger trade. That trade was tremendous and it was a franchise changing deal. I'd make that trade every single time.

And so much was made of the 35+ situation. But it's a non issue. Whether they knew or did know it. Even if they did know it, they were still going to re-sign him.
The only way it can be considered a bad deal by Holmgren is if you want to blame him for a freak career ending injury.

Well, if asked you for a list of top ten draft eligible prospects broken down into position, would that be a lot?

This is BiggE's territory.
List making and scotch.

I'm just goofing around.
Like MJL, mainly disgusted by the game last night.
They had a good team on the ropes at home.
Should have the 2 points.

Might just need to move the Schenns and be done with it -- Hextall didn't acquire either of them, he shouldn't feel beholden to them.

I mean, seriously. Last year, Luke Schenn was in Chateau Bow-Wow, this year, Brayden Schenn lasted all of four periods in one of what has to be the best slots currently in hockey. I mean, seriously. With an in-prime Giroux and an in-prime Voracek, really, all you have to do to is get to the front of the net and win some board battles -- it can't be that hard. Michael Raffl looked abysmal the first two games and he scored in the first period of his first full game with them -- it can't be that hard!

Something just isn't working, whether it's between the ears or physical shortcomings or personal dislike, I don't know, but something isn't working with the Schenns

- AllInForFlyers

You know what, I don't think Luke Schenn has been great this year. But he has also not been nearly as bad as is being said. Review the replays of the Devils game. Tell me what goal, of the 5 that he was on the ice for, that he can be directly blamed for?

Let's look at last night's game. Let's look at the Plekanec goal. I think Luke blocked 3 shots on that sequence. One of the blocked shots knocked him to the ice and probably hurt like hell. Even laying on the ice, he tried to clear the puck. Meanwhile his brother was standing and watching the entire play, as if he bought a ticket. He should've been eating a hot dog, that's how much of a spectator he was on that play. What a pathetic effort by B Schenn on that play. Compared to the high level of effort Luke gave. And Lecavalier wasn't much better. Instead of looking at the puck, look around and look behind you.

Luke Schenn can play better, as can everybody on the team. But he's been hung out to dry to this point of the season. The only player hung more out to dry has been Emery and Mason.

i'd rather give up on berube than schenn
- -davies-

If the kid can't play wing -- and God bless him, but i don't know if he can -- then i don't even know what you do with Schenn

The reason i have backed Schenn is we all have seen him play well for stretches, even though he can be inconsistent, at center. I KNOW that kid can play center

But if the Flyers aren't gonna let him play center and the coach is killing him 80 minutes into an 82-game season when he's on the wing, somebody in this situation needs to man the hell up and either let the kid play center or move his ass so you either get production or a different asset that the coach will like better

B. Schenn's start to this season has zero to do with playing the Wing, versus playing Center. And everything to do with the work ethic he is bringing to the ice, in my opinion.

They don't need to let him play Center or move his ass. B Schenn simply needs to move his ass.
