I'd still do those trades. If Schenn doesn't work out, then the Richie trade doesn't look as good, but Simmonds is awesome. I think we did ok in the other deal getting jake and Cooter..lol

Have to give Homer credit on those deals, that is for sure.

Steve Mason is expected to go for the Flyers. He has a perfect 3-0-0 record against the Habs in his career with a 1.63 goals-against average and .936 save percentage.

Interesting..

Personally I've been skeptical the whole time with him, just hoping he proves me wrong. Book isn't written for him yet but it feels like he has developing chemistry with line mates. All the juggling they do with him doesn't help
- funmaster18

It's simple to me, we might as well let him keep developing and put him in a position to succeed unless we can send him for D help..

BSchenn and Richards both scored 41 points last year, and Simmonds had 60. I was upset by the Richards trade at the time, but it the long run it was a great trade.
- Feanor

Id still do the trade as well. Taking longer than I hoped for it to pay off in the long run but I knew it wouldn't be a quick turnaround

Homer made some mistakes, but overall he did a solid job here.

If the Flyers have a strong forecheck, and play a sound positional 200 ft game with puck pressure in all 3 zones. The Habs won't be able to free wheel on the Flyers defense. It's a team game. The question is can they do that and will they do that.
- MJL

So what you're saying is... if the Flyers all of a sudden shed their history of inconsistency, slow starts, huge gaps, 20-min efforts, poor breakouts, leaving guys inexplicably open, bad puck management and poor discipline, they'll be OK?

Managed the team from being sad to the cup finals and winning a lot of rounds in the POs. If Pronger and now Timonen don't go down, our D still looks decent. I didn't like sending the picks for D help (Kubina) but he felt he needed to. Bryz was a mess but now we have Mase..

I think he generally had a good idea of what he wanted to do with the team, but lacked a specific plan or vision

Can we already be saying this is a must win game. At least a must win game as the third game of a season can be.

I honestly hope so, but I have big worries. can't see how we deal with Montreal's speed. I think it will be more like a 6-3 Montreal win.

Can the Flyers beat the Habs?
Sure

Will they?
odds are against them.

While the 3 games in 4 nights, does favor the home team a bit over one playing their 3rd straight on the road, the lineup matchup is not in their favor. If both teams bring their "A" games, you have to favor Montreal. The Flyers current D group just doesn't match up well against Montreal's speed.

And, before someone replies to this telling me that I'm wrong:

Yes, the Flyers COULD win tonight, IF their forwards play stellar 2 way hockey, IF they get top notch goaltending, IF Montreal has a bad night. However, as I said earlier, the odds aren't in their favor.

When your top dman is Andrew MacDonald, you are usually going to be in for a long night. AMac has no business playing on a top pair, he is better suited as either the support guy on the 2nd pair or the anchor on a 3rd.

And, before the same someone replies to tell me I'm wrong about AMac:

His Corsi numbers are pedestrian, THAT IS A FACT
His offensive stats are average, THAT IS A FACT
He has a tendency to back in, THAT IS A FACT
His mobility is solid, but not exceptional or even well above average, THAT IS A FACT
He is a very good shot blocker, THAT TOO IS A FACT

AMac is, to sum up, a solid 2nd pair NHL defenseman. Now that is my opinion and the opinion of most scouts and most folks on this thread.

I'm fine with most aspects of his game as an agitator, but he's gotta walk the line but not get penalties..

MacDonald hasn't been the problem the first two games. If the Flyers start getting strafed at even-strength to the tune of what we saw Thursday, there will be plenty of questions to be asked about afew players, not just him

half full, half empty....apparently the team is in the best condition physically then they have been for years

theres all this crap on here about if they do this and if they did that they would would have won.

good hockey players make good plays, seee the ice, anticipate play and make good decisions, cant be coached they either know how to execute or they dont, i feel we have a team full of hockey players that are not real hockey smart and consistently make poor decisions with the puck all over the ice.

I was hoping he'd have a solid start so we could package him and B Schenn for Doughty..

I'd like to see Jones in the line-up. He might be a 3/4 line guy, but he adds energy to this team. Unlike Rinaldo, he doesn't take those untimely bad penalties. Oh, and lets finally trade Coby. We keep hanging on to him, because he has size, and can skate. However, his decision making skills haven't made much progress, he can't skate side to side, and doesn't clear the paint that well. Yes, he can work the boards, but nobody fears him in the crease. He didn't play well in the preseason, and he didn't play well in the first game. So, let's get a reliable D-man while we can. Shultz wasn't bad last game, but he definitely isn't a long term deal, and a first line guy. I think that we should talk to the Oilers about signing Belov, or the Sens about Ceci. These guys can handle the puck well, stay healthy, and can skate from what I have seen. They are big, and the Flyers love size, and can get the puck to the forwards. In addition, these guys are way less in salary cost than Coby. I realize that these aren't first line guys, but they would be better than what we currently have, and it wouldn't cost us an arm, and a leg.
Thanks.
