Call me crazy...but what do you think about giving Sopel another shot...hes like Chelios...keeps on ticking. Maybe give him a look?...he wants back to the NHL and might come cheap...he is the best shot blocker there is in my opinion. Hw might be good for the last pairing and killing penalties since he can stay home.....

I hear Cam Barker is available as well. Also wants in the NHL and might come cheap.

You're right - $100,000 now won't accumulate to much of anything by the trade deadline.

So Bowman will either have to trade a contract to make a move at the deadline or stand pat.

Or maybe he makes a deal within the next month to clear a little more cap space?

Or when (if) the injury situation clears up (Versteeg, Mashinter, Roszival) they somehow go with 22 on the roster.

Seriously, would anyone care if Rozy and/or Mashinter got claimed? I know the Hawks would lose guys for nothing, but they'd gain cap space. And even if they werent claimed, they'd still gain more cap space in case the need for an addition were to arise.

Edit: Throw Versteeg in there too. Although, if Versteeg regains even anywhere close to his old form, he could probly be worth a 6th or 7th rounder

You got to keep Rozy as insurance. Sure he has lost a step or two, but you cant risk having three(at least 2) d spots filled by unproven players. When and if that happens then you can do it.

Meh, if the Hawks are gonna win the cup this year it aint gonna be because of Rozival. I get what you're saying, I'm just saying if those guys got sent down and either claimed or not, it would give the Hawks close to $2 mil in cap space or something like that (math isnt my strong suit).

Thats not a ton, but i would think its enough to make a deadline acquisition for a depth defensemen or bottom 6 forward.

2-3 d spots with unproven players would be ok for the 1st half of the season. If they haven't developed enough pull in a vet at the TDL.

I get the feeling though that Rundblad is getting an extended tryout. If he doesn't show something in 10-20 games he gets waived.

Really would like to see Klas get his shot here this year. I have no problem giving 2 older rooks like Klas and TVR strong looks to see if they can cut it. Both of them look mature for rookies on the ice (so far).

i loved when he broke his stick and just went to the slot and started setting screens
- 6628

Set the screen on the Sharp goal too..puts pressure on opposing dmen.
Shaw works hard every shift....If Saad works as hard as Shaw he could have 30 goals and as many assists. But not easy to bring that kind of effort every shift, every game.

hmmmm I wonder if Ogi either cursed under his breath or threw up just a tad when Sharp scored.

Ogi, hope you aren't getting jostled all about and delayed indefinitely.

Great minds. Figure even if Rozy gets waived/claimed/traded/LTIR'd, Brookbank is floating around out there and i like his defense better than Rozy's anyway.

Been thinking the last couple of weeks, if there was anyone in the league that is close to be being the next Mark Messier? After last night, I'm thinking maybe Jamie Benn just could be that guy. He was a beast! Right Edzo?

If he can stay healthy and that is never too easy especially when you play a rough style.

Not so sure...Maybe Brookbank is as good as last year and maybe not.

I think the front office is going to try to get 1 maybe 2 NHL players out of Rundblad, TVR, and Cumiskey...If not it will take a bit to figure it out.

When you say, "get 1 maybe two NHL players out of etc etc...", do you mean use them in trades or just try like hell to develop those guys into NHL'ers?

As I said last night you saw what Runblad can do in the four on four.

I think you just have to play him, remove all the doubt. He knows he is up for contract and he knows he has be good all over the ice.

I thought he diagnosed things well once he got in a couple shifts and wanted to be active, but when was the last time he saw game speed in a game?

Thought he had some very good puck movement in OT

Same here, the only thing i would say is that he looks stiff while he's skating. Like he could fall over/lose his balance any second. But i did like what he did in OT.

don't like this idea
use the regular season to give TVR, Rundladh and hopefully Dahlbeck a chance to get their feet under then and see what you have come playoff time
this may cost you a couple of games but the goal is to peak with the young guys come playoffs

Very much so and one more like him would make a big difference.

Is Hayden the one in the system?I know he is in college but I could see him turning pro sooner than later. He just seems to be a guy that is always impressing when he comes for his big club visits.

Hopefully Oduya bounces back bc he looked terrible last night besides his iron shot. He was getting tossed around and turning over the puck. I didnt watch the NYI game but Leddy was definitely missed last night IMO. Rundblad just doesnt seem to be quick enough to play at the NHL level. Observations from game 1/82 but I dont see Rundblad as a championship level 3rd pair Dman.

I would have been fine if they moved both Leddy and Oduya and gotten Stralman. Didn't look too bad for the Rags in the Finals.

Another Swede and we know how the Bowmans love Swedes. Stan still hasn't fixed the biggest problem from last spring and that's another physical dman that can clear the front of the net. Maybe that happens at the TDL. Who knows.

No question Leddy is missed - slick skater puck moving player, but still couldn't get his defense together. You also don't have Brookbank back there as a safety net. Solid physical player knew his role. Shame they lost Kostka thought he was solid and had a lot some offense to his game.
