no one wants to admit that Q ran leddy out of town. was likely given a choice by stanley: we can ship off Rozsival or we can ship off Leddy. which one do you want? we all know Q goes with his grizzled and over-the-hill veterans.

huge blunder. rozy hurt already and season isn't even begun. between injuries and his "rest" games, maybe he plays in 25 or 30. i'm thinking maybe 1/3 of them this season. we'll see how the prediction rolls out over the course of this season.

Who the hell would take rosy? You're just making stuff up now to fit your hate for Q and your undying love fest for Leddy.

Time to let the Leddy trade go. It was a cap forced deal and Leddy was the most logical choice. Yes Q had trust issues with Leddy but it's Q. The return for Leddy was decent. Put it to bed. We got the Sabres coming.

Not sure the Hawks still have more speed in their forward group than Dallas, NYR, Avs.... More skill yes.
- tredbrta

Might very well be true, but that is why I said Skilled and Fast, not just Fast. For me it is the combination and the combination of skill and speed trumps any other.

Also, before someone says it, lets not confuse big with physical. You have to be willing to go to the net or go into the corners and take the punishment. Yes maybe easier to do if your big, but this is more about heart than anything in my book.

JJ,
Good read as usual. I noticed the Hawks struggling (again) to keep up with a bigger/skilled and physical team. I know the belief is that finesse always beats brute strength, but I still don't buy into it 100%. you see it all the time, a team that can out-physcial another team can make such a difference. I can't help but think that if the gimmick (shootout) didn't exsist, and there was more OT to be played, the outcome may have been different.
The Hawks are probably one of the smallest teams in the league and they have no physcial prescence- Bickell certainly doesn't use his size. I get a little nervous with a lot of teams, like Dallas for example, who bulked up and can play both the physical game as well as the skilled game.
Do you think teams like this will take their toll on the Hawks, as they continue to batter them around?

- Hank3Henshaw

IMO, a team with speed and skill is always better than a team with size and not much of the other two. But a team that has all three is the brass ring. Which is why, to my mind, even with its imperfections, the 2009-10 Hawks were maybe the best team I've seen in the last 15-20 years.

BTW, and 6628 will appreciate this, i watched part of the Nashville-Ottawa game before the Hawks last night.

Before you complain about UC Ice, you should see how bad the ice was at Bridgestone.

You mean I s/b changing my avatar?

I just hope we're not having this same conversation come Feb/March/April. Cause if so, I won't be the only one bemoaning a certain player's departure. Just think we're not going to get far with Q riding 2/4/7/27 as hard as I think he will.

Maybe its ok with the poster in this case, it just threw me off a bit when i saw an actual name posted and not the username to reference the poster.

True, I will refer to those I have met and know in person by their first names sometimes. My bad. Beyond that, I divulge nothing.

Bickell looked like he was skating faster and getting more physical in the third while riding with Toews and Kane.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bickell/Toews/Kane line again for a few games. Also, I thought that the line of Sharp/Richards/Hossa looked alright too. I wouldn't mind seeing that line together for a couple of games.

- EKolb13

This is exactly what i was thinking watching the 3rd period. Id like to see more of those lines as well, and that leaves the possibility of a 20-65-23 3rd line when Versteeg returns, which i would also be interested in seeing.

I could be mistaken, but i wanna say i remember seeing that line last season during the regular season and i wanna say i remember it not being good. Mainly because of Versteeg

I disagree.

I'll agree to the idea that Leddy probably wasn't one of Q's favorites, but not the idea that Q ran Leddy out of town.

Leddy had been stuck on the 3rd paring for 2-plus seasons since Oduya arrived. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Q was holding him back or had some sort of agenda to do as such.

There should be some consideration for the idea that Leddy possibly had not done enough to unseat Oduya for a spot on the 2nd paring. I'm not trying to knock Leddy. He's talented and has some upside. But perhaps he's just not ready for a role like that yet, or there wasn't going to be the opportunity to step into that role in Chicago.

As for trading Rozsival, there are the arguments that another team would or would not be willing to take him in a trade. The problem is that trading Rozsival himself was not going to solve the cap problem.

In all, I don't believe that Q ran him out of town. If anything ran Leddy out of town, it's the hard salary cap. Getting under the cap ceiling for this season and the constraints that will come next summer (Toews and Kane's raises, Leddy's contract, ect.) led to Leddy being the odd man out.

If there was not a hard salary cap, I believe that Leddy would still be in Chicago.

Doing some back reading on last nights game. I wanted to make a quick comment on Rundblad. He was not flashy, did not stand out but I think only once in the third did he look out of place. As for TVR more of the same in the limited TOI but he made some nice outlets. I'm ok with easing them into the lineup as long as the top four get some rest as the season goes on.

John Jaeckel: How To Win On The Road
- John Jaeckel

Totally agree on JJ's observations. It was a stolen 2 points by Crawford, probably his best performance in his career. Hopefully he can avoid that one softy a night and build on this.
My observation is that maybe it's a good thing that everybody in the west got better in the summer. ( Except Colorado ) The Hawks hopefully learned last night that they have to put forth the effort for 60 minutes, not just the final 25 like last night. Let's see how they come out tomorrow night against a weak time like Buffalo.
Will they "throw their sticks at center ice" and play Ho Hum hockey ? Or will they dominate a much weaker team and finally learn to start burying teams like this with 4-0, 5-1, wins ?? This is a super talented team that's extremely deep but must learn to step on the few soft teams when they have the chance. This will help in the long run by avoiding all those overtimes like last year. Hopefully Q plays those who bust their asses and sits those who don't on those bottom six forwards.

On a one year plan I would have kept Leddy and blown up Rozy and Versteeg in a NY minute. But it's all about the money and there is no way the Hawks were going to do the $5M / year waltz with Leddy's agent going forward. They just didn't like him as a player that much.

And I think they really believe Van Riemsdyk is a player with lots of puck patience who can be developed into a very good blueliner in fairly short order.
Clearly he took a job away from Dahlbeck.
