Guys that have played, do have different perspectives......they understand it's not a video game....it is not perfect, it can not be broken down into strict analytic stats, not matter how many try....there's the human element.
Guys that have played and coached get that.....most comments on here can be taken with a grain of salt if you've never actually played.

Doesn't mean they are right. And the point still stands. You don't have to have played the game to come to the right conclusion on a play. And I agree that it's not a video game, nor can the sport be broken down into strict analytics. Especially that. And there is definitely emotion and a human element involved.

In case anybody's wondering what the hell I'm doing on HB on a Friday night when I have a wife, life and the Flyers aren't playing, I'm trying like hell to postpone effing around with a project in the basement that needs attention

That's why I'm in such a gregarious mood -- I need peace and joy on this board, because if it goes sour, I'm gonna get horrified and then start some poop in the basement that I'm not gonna be able to finish until tomorrow...so I might as well do it tomorrow, right?

I spent the day working, came home to a pissed off wife and a washing machine that needs replacing. Got the wife calm, now we're waiting for our Chinese food to get here and I'm killing time.

Because people that haven't played NHL hockey and only watch it don't understand ?
- opeth_pa

Now I understand why Paul Maurice, Ken Hitchcock, Peter DeBoer, Barry Trotz, Mike Keenan, and Mike Babcock will never win the Cup.

They've never played in the NHL.

Uh, wait....

Same here, on the washing machine -- something's going down with the drainage area, and I have a feeling that I'm gonna have to Roto that SOB at a minimum

Well great, who on this forum has played in the NHL because i can bet you just about all of us have played hockey all of our lives , outside of video games, and are just as qualified to make a statement on an obvious missed save at a critical time .

In all my posts I said the same thing..Forwards take the brunt of the blame last night, Mason needs to make that save and yes..it was a garbage goal when you look at all the circumstances of the play. That is not an indication on Mason as a person, as a professional or anything else other than at that moment he gave up a really bad goal.

- opeth_pa

Not at all...it's that I would listen more to a guy that has played net over a guy saying Mason should have done this or that......to me Mason looked shaky all night....yes the last goal looked stoppable, he probably anticipated Schenn to play puck....others were redirected...but that's the sport....Schnieder stopped several redirected shots....but I also realize these are the best players in the world shooting the puck....qualified to make statements...sure ...debatable if there correct...always......

bad goal. horrible goal. has to make the save. easy save. anybody knows that. got it.

Ours started leaking, and then I realized it was because clothes were getting jammed because the spin cycle wasn't happening right. So I took it apart, made sure it wasn't anything electrical and put it back together and called Sears.

The guy said it was the transmission, and that the clutch assembly was going to need replacing, too. $375.

New washer? $349 on Sears website.

Yessir -- we're old enough to remember when stuff like that used to be luxury items; now if that poop breaks, I'm like "Uh, yeah, isn't that why I work 50 hours a week? Hit the website, Wife of Mine -- tell 'em I want it delivered, too, because I'm getting older and I'm not lifting anything heavier than this beer."

A guy who has played net can also have a bias, or feel protective of a fellow netminder, and will want to deflect criticism. Which can also lead to a loss of objectivity. Not saying that is the case here.
Having played the position does not give anyone an edge in determining if a goal was a weak goal or not. An educated and experienced fan is just as qualified to make a determination on that.
Now if a technique of goaltending is being discussed, then that could be a different story.

No it doesn't. So why not just focus on the play, rather then who has played the position and who hasn't? No reason for that to have been brought into it, in my opinion.

Couturier is rightfully a lock on this team going forward.

I am slightly curious though, if the Schenn brothers have rough years, how much longer will we be seeing them in Philadelphia?

Speaking of the so called core that is.

Would Luke have any value?

I wonder what value Brayden would have, (maybe for D help now)?

Edit: Oh, and Couturier is a "freekin" beast!

Curious about Luke's value, his game takes a beating everywhere you read.

We'd be selling low at this point.
