ok. i guess the cowboys and/or redskins then? i am an eagles fan, but i don't bleed green. i actually was a dallas fan as a little kid - first pro sport i discovered - and i loved everson walls, tony dorsett and too tall jones. then i stopped giving a poop about a football for a long time - it wasn't until i moved to the philly area as an adult that i became an eagles fan. it was weird to discover that eagles fans hate dallas so much. it's the only sport i've ever changed allegiances.
- hammarby31

I changed in football as well.....same thing, too. I was a Dallas fan as a kid because a bunch of my friends were Dallas fans. PEER PRESSURE IS REAL.

I met a bunch of the Eagles when I was 12 or so back when they had training camp in West Chester. My first autograph from an athlete was an Eagle (Jerry Robinson). Ever since then, I was an Eagles fan.

Oh, and all of those friends that I grew up with that were also Dallas fans? They are now Eagles fans too.

I like to think the more intelligent Flyers fans have found this site and post here. You read these threads and this is the best we have. The rest are completely uneducated, hockey knowledge depleted, drunken idiots.

There are like 20 of us.

Just don't fall too in love with it. It's not on the NHL.com game summaries.

It's definitely nice to come on here and be able to have intelligent (relative term) Flyers talk, instead of sticking to the national/WIP mantra. I remember the first game in 12/13, there was a kid (early 20s maybe) in front of me. Penguins take their first SOG and Bryz kicks it away easily. Kid screams, "YOU SUCK BRYZ!" I wanted to punch him in the mouth so (frank)ing badly.

The Kings and Blackhawks are as close a "a lineup full of stars" as you'll get. Boston's not far behind.
- jmatchett383

Oops I meant to put something along the lines of "when you do have star players, this is what happens"

The Flyers defense is just as good if not better then the Devils iced in 11/12. And that's far more about execution and discipline then it is about talent on the roster.
- MJL

Without Coburn you think their D is as good as the 11-12 Devils??

Are you on the team's payroll?

I changed in football from Eagles to Steelers. I still cheer for the Eagles and watch them, and if it came down to them in the Super Bowl, I'd pull for the Eagles so they can get one (Pittsburgh's already working on the right hand).

so he is saying shooting and save percentages are primarily luck driven and that most players revert to the mean after time?

did I read that correctly?

- Marc D

Yes, with the mean being 1000 (or 100.0%), which is based on years and years of data.

So if a guy has a PDO well above that mark and playing well, it could be due to good "puck luck". While the opposite is also true for bad luck.

It's not a 100% barometer on how to read a player and how's performed, but it's really really useful in finding outliers.

It can be used at the team level as well. It was the driving force for all those last year who believed that the Avalance were a fluke. Their PDO as a team was a sky high last season - which isn't usually sustainable.

Some more info: http://blogs.thescore.com...2013/01/21/pdo-explained/

Once again, this is just about trying to add some context to numbers.

He'd be an instant upgrade. More physical than Del Zotto, MacDonald, and Steit. More mobility than Grossmann, and Schenn.

i almost got into a physical fight with another flyers fan a couple of years ago over jvr. he was sitting at the other end of the row...hammered...and just relentless on him the whole game. i finally couldn't take it anymore, stood up, and started screaming at the guy to shut the (frank) up, we get it, you think he sucks. he started giving me poop about my lindbergh jersey, and proceeded to tell me he was a better fan because he was wearing a mel bridgeman jersey and that i didn't know who bridgeman was...somehow i collected myself and didn't escalate because if i had, i probably would have gone to jail.

so jvr scores in the 3rd period and the entire section of 221 stood up and pummeled the guy with jeers. it was sweet. (frank)ing goddamn asshat.

Yeah I'm just saying that you don't necessarily need a lineup full of stars. A talented team buying into a system gets you the Kings, Blackhawks, Bruins, etc.
