that's a little more understandable given that philly/chicago aren't really arch rivals in any sport.

for me, it's much more about the fans than the teams themselves. i hate new york/new jersey fans with every fiber of my being. i could never root for any team in that market in any sport ever. it's not physically possible. because i want to murder all of their fans.

it's always odd to me when fans are not 4 for 4 guys (assuming they bother rooting for a team in more than 1 sport), especially if they root for teams of rival cities like in your case. i get that season ticket thing - so why not be a rangers, islanders, or devils fan? why the flyers? i have no idea how you became a flyers fan.
- hammarby31

I'm always interested in stories of how people came to root for a particular team.

I'm especially puzzled by people who follow something like, European soccer, and suddenly become passionate about a team from a far away city they likely hold no personal or emotional connection with.

The Flyers defense is just as good if not better then the Devils iced in 11/12. And that's far more about execution and discipline then it is about talent on the roster.

That team had Ilya Kovalchuk playing a strong two-way game. For whatever reason, everyone bought into that system.

FYI: Giants fans don't consider the Eagles arch rivals. More like red headed step children.

My family had personal connections to Tino Martinez, so I was a Marines/Yankees/Cardinals/Devil Rays/Yankees fan for periods of time.

Coburn could compliment a #1, but I don't think he's quite a top-2 player when he's the anchor.
- jmatchett383

Not a player that you would build a top pair around. Coburn is at best a #2 NHL defenseman. You build around a legitimate #1 preferably.

I'll bite. Who are the big rivals of the Giants? Anyone who has a QB whose face doesn't constantly look like it's on the verge of breaking down in tears?

If the Flyers could get to the point of playing that kind of team game consistently, the Flyers defense would be fine. Wouldn't make them a Cup team. But a solid playoff team. They showed it against Boston. It broke down last night.

Yeah I'm just saying that you don't necessarily need a lineup full of stars. A talented team buying into a system gets you the Kings, Blackhawks, Bruins, etc.

I don't have a problem with Eagles fans at Eagles games. I have a problem with Eagles fans everywhere else. They seem to think that doing an "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!" chant is acceptable everywhere 24/7. The supermarket on a Saturday morning, at/outside of Flyers' games in mid-March, you name it, it's happened.

The Kings and Blackhawks are as close a "a lineup full of stars" as you'll get. Boston's not far behind.

ok. i guess the cowboys and/or redskins then? i am an eagles fan, but i don't bleed green. i actually was a dallas fan as a little kid - first pro sport i discovered - and i loved everson walls, tony dorsett and too tall jones. then i stopped giving a poop about a football for a long time - it wasn't until i moved to the philly area as an adult that i became an eagles fan. it was weird to discover that eagles fans hate dallas so much. it's the only sport i've ever changed allegiances.

ty

so he is saying shooting and save percentages are primarily luck driven and that most players revert to the mean after time?

did I read that correctly?

So, my long-time (5 years) neighbor had to drop his season tix this year, so I had a new guy sitting next to me. Nice enough, chatty. So, about halfway through the third, he goes on a rant about how horrible Coburn is, how many terrible plays he makes, how he constantly turns the puck over, etc. Went on to talk about how he's basically a bad version of Matt Carle.

Is this really how the bulk of the fanbase is?

- jmatchett383

I like to think the more intelligent Flyers fans have found this site and post here. You read these threads and this is the best we have. The rest are completely uneducated, hockey knowledge depleted, drunken idiots.

There are like 20 of us.

So I should go around screaming, "LET'S GO FLYERS!!!" 24/7 everywhere I go, and should expect people to applaud me for it? Sorry, I prefer to not be a complete douchebag.

Just don't fall too in love with it. It's not on the NHL.com game summaries.
