I've been hoping for a legit defensive shake up for a couple seasons now - this isn't the first season they've been horrible... I don't care that Coburn is our best dman (that's like being the tallest midget IMO cause he's not THAT good when you compare him to dmen around the league). If Edmonton will give us 3 second round picks again I'm sending him off. Grossmann and Schenn are so bad its a ridiculous waste of time to even argue advanced stats re: these two. I'd rather struggle with bringing up some of the young guys or even a few waiver wire guys that cost $1 million to bridge the gap - at least that'd be an excuse to be this bad. The flyers should not be tying up this much cap space on the defense (or lack thereof) we currently have. End vent
- moylander

The Flyers hands are tied with Grossmann and Schenn. If they could play them against the easiest competition for less minutes, they could both be valuable. But when they have to play more and tougher minutes, they'll falter much more often. Like Mesz in 2010-11 when he one the Ashbee Trophy. He was used in his optimal capacity but then had to be used outside of that capacity and he struggled, plus injuries.

If you had any commitment to the 200 ft game, you would have posted an actual gif.

You need to be traded. Yesterday.

Laughable, coming from a completely unproven poster such as yourself. We've got no depth on this thread.

Two GM's involved in that trade, one got poopcanned, the other got promoted.
Hence, the Flyers won the trade!

- PLindbergh31

you don't honestly believe that one was promoted do you?

removed from the decision making role is more like it

Guess the one relentless Coburn hater, aka 2real, is going to get a taste of just how important Coburn is to the team.

grossmann and streit will be fine. its not keith and seabrook but whatever

schenn played very well with amac (and with kimmo at times) last year when not paired against the top lines. he is going to be challenged playing with MDZ who roves around a lot, but it's only been two games, they could improve

It's me but I'm not saying we should do it. I'm saying we're just going to be that bad.

I think it was Hextall's plan all along. Holmgren wouldn't do it because he botched it the last time and ended up with Luke Schenn out of a second overall pick so they promoted him.

Hextall traded Hartnell for Umberger? Signed Bellemare, Jones, Shultz, White & Del Zotto. Demoted all of our good young players to the minors or the CHL.

If this team isn't tanking then someone please explain all of this to me?

Rosehill didn't even stick...

I neglected to do so just to boost your argument.

Took one for the team, as it were.

Did he take a paycut? If someone wants to pay me more money, to take on less responsibility where do I sign?

Hmm, perhaps I misjudged.

In light of your good teammate-ship, I'm promoting you from "completely unproven" to "Jody Shelley"

I honestly don't get the hate. I mean, no he isn't perfect and he does tend to make those "Oh Coburn" plays but all in all he is a good NHL dman with size and skating ability who chews up big minutes. Didn't get the Carle hate either.
- nastyflyergirl

People don't realize the burden put on defenseman who are logging big minutes against the toughest competition. Even the best defenseman get beat and have goals scored against them.

I think people also want to complain about things without offering a suggestion. I've always hated people who complain but offer no suggestion.

It's easy to say the team should bench Coburn, but for who and who takes his spot?

How many players in this upcoming draft are considered can't miss top end studs?

Flyers formula: Take that number add 1 and that is where they will pick.

I don't know. did he have contract years left on his GM deal?

If he did then he is likely getting the same pay

still he has less responsibility so I don't honestly view it as a promotion

Fair point. And I agree Marc. I think he's just fulfilling his contract, and then he will be gone.
