That's the worst part. For 90% of his time on ice Rinaldo was a positive presence. Even his second penalty, they were hemmed in, it wasn't necessarily dumb. But the first one, there's just no excuse for it.

Ref is ten feet away, you know you have a reputation and aren't getting a break and you hit a non-goon in the face, far away from the puck.

This is not an excuse but I think he thought they would let it go because there probably should have been a call on McQuaid when he cross checked Rinaldo after he put a good hit on Robbins. Still shouldn't have done it though

THIS

Coburn is being asked to be a #1 dman, and he's not that guy. He can be the support guy on the top pair or anchor your 2nd unit, but asking him to anchor the top pair is simply asking too much. However, he's the best they have and they will just have to make do for this season.

- BiggE

Well, considering they have a stud goalie and as a group seemed to compete fairly well. I think they will fine. Now if we had Bryz in net.......

I'd do a 1-1 swap of B Schenn for Kane in a heartbeat. Kane's a better skater and a natural wing.

And carries a cap hit that we can't handle at the moment.

The Flyers suck. I hate the Flyers. They're traaaaaaaaaaaaaaash.

The way the Flyers have played against the Devils recently, they could end up 0-2 to start the season. Was I seeing things or did Umberger and Akeson swap lines by the second period?

He is a frustrating player indeed...some solid hustle, good hits and creating chances, and then he loses his mind...I don't think he actually hit him, i would like to see the neck snapping power he threw at him....but as you said, he has to know either he is dropping gloves or he needs to skate away and get back on D...

he did a good job drawing two penalties, although the crappy powerplay did not yield any fruit...

I just like how skating up to a player is considered "roughing."

The (frank)ed up schedule in the preseason did not do them any favors.

They need time to come together as even though they didn't make huge changes a lot of the key units have new combinations.

The first PP unit, the first and third pair D, new PK pairs except for Couts/Read, and a new winger on nearly every line.

The passes were off and the 1st PP never really got set up.

Unfortunately their early season schedule is a bear and they don't have much time to get it going.

I'm worried about playing at home, I think the crowd could turn in them or they may try and force things even more. Hopefully G bounces back in a big way tonight. I think he needs to have a multiple point game for them to win.

Has anyone mentioned the worst play by one of our defensemen last night?

I'm talking about Streit backhanding the puck right to a Bruin when he was coming up the ice on the PP. I'm a big fan of the guy, but that was brutal. And so lazy.

Regarding Mason, I have read nothing but negative reviews regarding him this offseason. It's like they the so called experts never watched a game he played. he was solid all season and when he came back in the playoffs was outstanding IMO. Most comments have focused on how he regressed after one good year in CBJ and expect him to have the same issue and to be horrible this year even though there is no evidence. I also read reviews that had him behind several backup tenders in rankings of the league's tenders which is ridiculous. Once again, the experts prove that they don't watch the Flyers and simply copy and paste the story from 5 years ago saying we can't win because our tending is no good. Idiots.
- Hextall271

Well, critics could argue that one good season doesn't necessarily "outdo" the seemingly lousy ones in Columbus in evaluating and making a prediction on the player. It'd be fruitless to try and convince them otherwise. All Mason can do is put together another solid season. Do it consistently, and regardless of whether he's a Flyer goalie or not, people will take notice.

Maybe it was Umberger's 18 and Bellemare's 78 that was throwing me off.

Also, not a fan of that Robbins kid (well, he's 32, but, you know) punching Schenn was he was down. Somebody should have stomped that mother(frank)er's face. Pronger, where are you?

Awful.

I think they designed that play as part of the zone entry on the PP last year. First guy would skate the puck through the neutral zone, draw the defenders and then drop it to a trailer coming with speed. I never loved that play.

if you trade coburn will there really be a significant differance in wins or losses by not having him on the team? they are not winning a cup anytime soon with or without coburn. I dont think coburn is the diff in them making or not making the playoffs.

if a deal is there to be made you make it sonny. i dont give him away. come the deadline you may be able to get a nice package for him from a legit contending team.

It was a frustrating game to watch at lot of the time with the Bruins stifling the Flyers offense. Not to many scoring chances in the 1st and 3rd. That one 2-on-1 with Schenn and Voracek where Schenn shot it right into Rask's chest...brutal.

I mean it is pretty ridiculous. People just dont want to accept that the Flyers actually have a good goalie now. People are just too used to us having it as an achilles heel. In fact I am too. Think about this. Ben Bishop... nearly 28 years old now right? Where the hell has he been?! He has one good season and now he is "elite". Give me a break. Mason deserves more credit than that guy. At least he played in the NHL as a starter for seasons. Not just a season.

I would trade pretty much anyone for a nice return. Coburn does help the team though and I don't think they'll move him without being blown away since they're already thin on the blueline. Losing him would hurt the team more than the Flyers would like, IMO.

The square footage for every blue print i've drawn up at work so far has 28 in it, that's gotta be a good sign for tonight, right?
