I'll go with this too, because I can't even comprehend what they'd do otherwise -- though I guess if Coburn's really out long-term, you could move him to LTIR
- AllInForFlyers

LTIR for Timonen and Coburn would cover it short term.

looks like prongers cap hit will have to come off ltir and will count against the cap for him to take the nhl job and according to Pinocchio once the nhl announces it they will have to move 4 mil to be cap compliant
- mydoglicks

great. maybe we can dump 3 of our poopty d and bring up morin, gost, and hagg.

Bob McKenzie said that Pronger would remain on LTIR. Given Tim's past cap related reporting, I'm going to assume Bob is right

Schenn isn't good defensively, but he's not a train wreck either. I'd like to see him with two wingers who fit with him. He always gets the guys who struggle. First, it was Briere then last year, it was VL.

A lot of this is on him, but the team hasn't exactly set him up for success. He had some great stretches with Voracek two years ago and played well with Hartnell and Simmonds last year. Both of those lines were broken up in order to move Voracek and Hartnell up to the top line.

HA! The website is saying that it won't count against the Flyers; perhaps Baicker got in there and cleaned it up

Penn State in 2 years will be relevant again. I've been sucking it up for 3 years and will watch every game.

They haven't been atrocious though. They've been somewhat competitive despite all the poop that happened.
- PhillySportsGuy

They still get good kids because the educational aspect is solid and Bill O'Brien did great work in updating a ton of stuff to make more compatible with the pro game (especially, with the weight room). They lack depth because of the scholarship thing. But that's over now. They are gonna get good talent and get it quickly. Franklin can recruit, but can he coach? That's the question.

People that bury Penn State make me laugh. They have no idea how much the alums love that place (Hi Terry Pegula!) and don't want to see it fail because we believe in it and know what people say about it is stupid and wrong.

Until that kid signs, his "commitment" is meaningless.

Plus, I've seen enough bluechippers flame out in college ball to know that following college recruiting is a fool's errand.

I think the team so far looks as expected. A buble playoff team at best. I don't think this is an overreaction. Hopefully the next Steve Downie trade or Emery fight in late October will change this.

There was no way the Flyers weren't going to get blatantly banged on that.

But notice, we didn't get the sweet ass New Jersey Devils draft pick deal.

The problem is, if he comes off the LTIR, his cap hit would be on the cap, with no LTIR exemption, which would mean the Flyers would suddenly have to move $4.91mm off their roster via trade, waivers or by putting another guy on LTIR.

Teams get no cap relief from regular IR. They just get a roster spot opened. The salary counts towards the cap.

if you want to have an aneurism ff to the flyers power play at the end of the game; the devils get away with 3 really obvious penalties and the take down of giroux in the corner is just vintage njd bullpoop

He will stay on LTIR....the Flyers will continue to pay him......the net effect is no change at all for the Flyers....he will not rule on any thing Flyer related.

I don't worry about the forwards as much as I do the defense -- the only defense I've seen comparable to this one in overall weakness -- not individual weakness, because every player has flaws, but overall with regard to how they are going to match up with other teams over the course of 60 minutes-- was Edmonton's last year

Over 60 minutes, without Coburn, it's hard for me to see how the overall ability is there to play a system that gets them into the playoffs. It was gonna be hard with Coburn, and I'm trying to stay optimistic and see how it can be done, but for the life of me, I just don't see how it holds up over 60 minutes without Coburn

That is what McKenzie tweeted, yes. However, Panaccio's article muddies the water a bit. I think Panaccio is wrong.

My lone concern is the impact on the Flyers cap situation.
