Mogilny was on an over 35 deal and retired due to injury. He came off the cap as a result of the exception made to the 2005 CBA.

It's been explained numerous times that the HRR impact could be handled by using the CBO formula.

For someone that doesn't deal with hypotheticals , you have a lot to say about one.

He has to talk about our hypothetical to let us know that our hypothetical is not worth talking about.

I agree, especially you're point about the concussion issue. I think excepting career ending concussions or PCS in cases like Pronger would go a long way in making the NHL look good as well as setting a precedent.
- NickTheKid87

And where is the harm in that? Nobody can predict acute onset career ending injuries. So in a case like Savards or Pronger's... there is no reason why these guys should be held in limbo. Its stupid.

Flyers beat a Krejci-less Bruins squad 3-1, with an empty-netter.

Your goal-scorers are Simmonds (PP), Voracek and Matt Read (EN)

Why should any team be penalized because a player suffers a career ending injury? It's dumb.

The owners are happy with additional cap space in the offseason and an extra contract slot. The league will be happy because this would mean another player that can help the team win and, subsequently, make more money. The players will be happy because they don't have to be in limbo and move on with their lives.

The puck will be dropped at 7:38 PM EST, at the center of the ice. 5 skaters and a goalie will be dressed for each team.

Half the time (or more) it's not the details of the hypothetical that are relevant but the concepts and principles that underlie them.

When it comes to rules and regulations all current realities were once hypotheticals.

All I'll say about Chris Pronger is this: If he truly does go to work for the Department of Player Safety, it is absolutely ludicrous that he isn't allowed to retire -- the league is acknowledging that he can't play!

isn't allowing him to be put on LTIR acknowledging he can't play?

I hope he scores 80 goals, 200 points, and helps the Flyers win the Cup this year. I really do.

I expect to divide those totals by about 5, though, at best.

- jmatchett383

So they win a 5th of a cup?

Btw I just watched Solomon Kane... Was pretty good

Yes, but at the same time, I do agree with those who say that his contract, Marc Savard's, others need to be taken off the books once they have been ruled to have suffered career-ending injuries.

Which is why this whole charade is ridiculous anyway.

Find a way to grant an exception so everyone is made whole. The NHL made an exception for the Devils in the Kovalchuk mess and they can make one here.

i would argue that the underlying concepts and principles are so interwoven with the hypothetical itself that it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. regardless, they all require an acknowledgement of possible solutions, or at the very least, a reflection of why the hypothetical was proposed.

in either case, learning occurs. and a wise man on PBS once told me that time's never wasted as long as you learned something.
