NHL network last night is their dumb "Information" scroll on the bottom of screen had this lovely tid bit.

"New York Islanders have not made the playoffs since 2006/2007"

amazing.

- niteislander

even eklund would have correctly written that:

"If you dont count the last time the islanders were in the playoffs then The New York Islanders have not made the playoffs since 2006/2007"

Man he is out of his freaking mind. Those predictions yesterday were based on what? We will make pretend a month of the season didn't happen last year and base my predictions on that for this season. Absolutely, completely out to lunch. Like he puts zero thought into anything he writes. Loved how he said the islanders were great in every way though there were question marks about defense but the new additions should help significantly and picked them for 5th in the division then picks the Flyers for 2nd with AMAC, Del zotto, Schenn, on three different pairings with AMAC being on the first

My point was how can he say look at guys like Nolan & Lewis and then turnaround and in his eyes say Martin is on his way of the NHL when they are the same exact players. If anything Martin has slightly out produced them as well but he is on his way out???
- Vukota

I would agree Martin can be a lot more than a plug if he doesn't play like last year

Larry Brooks picked the Rangers to win the Cup this year. Even after last year this seems like a big push. I do not see the Rangers having the offense to get to the finals again.

Rangers have a good team and im not trying to take anything away from them but they had a lot of things work out for them in the playoffs. Price and mason not getting injured and things could have been different but that's the playoffs. They surprised me last year and maybe they will again but I'd have a hard time picking them to win it all.

I agree. Very good team, but things may not break as well as they did in the playoffs this year like last year.

Rangers are solid in goal and on D which translates onto good playoff hockey.

True, but lots of continued pressure on the goalie and D without more from the offense.

The timing of his hits last year and where the puck was (or wasn't) was what made most of them meaningless and made it look like he was padding his hit total. If he can get into the play where the puck is he'll be a lot more effective.

A hit is a hit doesn't matter the scenario. When you keep pounding the opposition it will take a toll on that team. I'm not saying to skate across the ice to chase guys down that doesn't have the puck. I didn't see that from him and he would have gotten more penalties than he did if that was the case. I did see him at times going out of his way to finish his checks which is ok because I believe that has an impact on the opposite team for many reasons

Rangers lost some older forwards but their young forwards still have a lot of room to improve. Likewise Isles forwards are young and improving which is why they will be an exciting team. Rangers still have an edge on goal but Isles need to rest Halak if by giving more time to Johnson and even let Poulin come up if he is doing well

Still would surprise me to see the Rangers getting back to the Cup. St. Louis is a year older and Nash has been a letdown. Losing Stralman could be a hit as well.

Disagree – this isn’t a playoff series we’re talking about. You don’t wear down a defense because the guy’s been hit twice in the game, it happens over the course of a season or series. During the regular season if you’re always behind the play and hitting the guy after the puck is gone you are out of position.

Sorry, hitting in the NHL regular season is NOT like pounding the ball between the tackles in the NFL. That wears down a defense, 2-3 hits a game behind the play does NOTHING.
