It's not the best team they can put on the ice. - jmo16
should be:
Nelson JT Okposo
Kulemin Grabovski Strome
Lee Nielson Grabner
Conacher Cizikas Clutterbuck
scratches: bailey/martin
waive: mcdonald, boulton
hamonic dehaan
leddy boychuk
visnovsky pulock
hickey
waive donovan, carkner, strait
halak
johnson
you sub in bailey if someone in the top 9 gets injured (move bailey to third line and bump everyone else up) martin comes in if a 4th liner gets hurt or we need someone in an enforcer role instead of conacher.
on defense, hickey comes in for visnovsky's injuries, if anyone else goes down call up czucman or reinhart. If you're really unsure of having pulock or reinhart in the lineup, then put hickey in for them, send both pulock and reinhart to bridgeport, scratch strait and waive donovan and carkner.
the team on the ice is better, you may lose a couple of vets that you could sub in but that are NOT full time NHL players on a playoff team. I'd rather give the youth the opportunity especially when they've outplayed these vets that have been handed the jobs.
**edit, when carkner comes off the IR if he's not waived immediately I'm gonna lose my sh!t. |

They're carrying a lot of goalies. How's this Injured Reserve guy, I can't find any info on him. - jmatchett383
LOL that was good actually. Bravo sir, ps the scouting report on Injured Reserve is that he's got bad knees, a bad hip, concussion history and eats lefts from Brent Johnson like he's a fat kid in front of a plate full of sugar cookies.

The one thing about this snow regime (cappy etc) is that they always give a guy his spot, until he loses it. Granted that could take years I.E Bailey, but that's their deal. Anders Lee is young......let's see what happens. Injuries are gonna happen. He's gonna get called up in the first month or two. |

Let's see what they do when these guys come off IR. I'm willing to give Snow the benefit of the doubt and let this play out

How many seasons is he going to play in Bridgeport? He's clearly mastered the AHL.
Also, in the context of life he's young. In the context of pro hockey, he's the same age as Nick Leddy. |

he can't get there again without going on waivers, and he's clearly not ready based on his play this preseason. He needs to play and not sit as a scratch, and waiving him to the ahl is the only solution. If he gets claimed he gets claimed. I like the kid, but he's not NHL ready. |

I'm saying he should have never been called up.....he's the prime example of someone who needs to develope.
What you're suggesting is give up on an asset for nothing. I don't think that's the answer. |

He's a kid......he signed a two way deal. Everyone knows what that means.....especially on a team with depth at forward. It's not gonna hurt his development starting in bport.
Side note: From a previous post you made, please take Hickey off the first d pair. |

It's not a matter of being called up. This year you can't hide anyone in the AHL that needs to go through waivers. This is to prevent teams from keeping someone in the AHL who may get an NHL job from someone else.
** to be clear (and I'm not sure if it's just this year) at the beginning of the year, all the players who require waivers to play in the ahl must go through waivers. It's not calling them up for camp and sending them down, it's to give these guys like donovan or brennan a shot at an nhl job around the league if they don't make the nhl team that holds their rights, otherwise these guys continue to play in the minors on good teams and may never get a shot or it might come years after it should have.

I hope so, I really was counting on dehaan's play this year. He's fantastic to watch when he slows the play down and controls the pace of the game when he has the puck. I really hope this is his only injury this year. Kid needs a break.

It's not just this year, it's just that this year the Isles actually have depth so, for once, they are trying to avoid exposing players to the waiver wire instead looking to it to fill out their roster. |

Boulton has a spot, because Boulton has a function. It's Bailey who is the one who shouldn't be on the roster. |

Call me crazy, but I don't hate Boulton in his role...in fact, I think he is perfect for it. The dude skates hard, bangs people around and doesn't back down to anyone. What more can you ask for in the healthy scratch/4th line player? - Charlie21
Agreed...you still need someone to play against teams like Philadelphia, who are stuck in 1978. It's unfortunate, but it's reality, and will be until the rules change. This is why Boulton as an extra forward doesn't bother me.
On the other hand, there's no way Bailey beats out Lee for a spot on this roster for any reason other than the fact that Snow hasn't been able to accept that he's not getting more than a 6th round pick in exchange for Bailey's contract, and he doesn't want someone to pluck him off the wire. The first step toward recovery is admitting that you just should have retired the number 12 sweater when Duane Sutter left the team. If Bailey starts this season with one point in ten games, it's time to cut and run. |

I agree Hickey isn't a top pairing D man but he is reliable in his own zone. The other LH Dmen that could be paired up top with Hammer are Strait, Dono, Leddy and Griff. Hickey is better than Strait and Dono and it's not really close. Griff is a rookie and he shouldn't start out getting 20+ minutes. Break the kid in slow. I havn't watched Leddy play too much so I can't attest to his reliability in his own zone. I have no problem however putting him with Boychuk on the second pair.
Our top pairing doesn't need to be offensive, just reliable. I think a Hickey-Hammer pairing is just that. Once DeHaan and Viz come back, that adds in some offense to the D line. |

Garth has a soft spot for underdogs. His favorite movie must be Rudy. Has to have one long shot on the roster each season.
Whats funny is they spoke about "having a discussion with Strome" after his 2nd or 3rd preseason game, pointing out that he wasnt playing the same/doing the little things he had done previously, vis a vie, "Hey, if you wanna make the team......."
When the hell do they plan on speaking with Josh? These are the things that concern me in regards to this team making the next step. |
