Kaner is 10x as clutch because he has more elite skill. And did you just say only reason? - RonPielep
Only reason wasn't really warranted, I take that back. But Kane is not 10x the clutch player Zetterberg is. Is he more clutch? Yes. Is he ten times the player in do-or-die situations? Hell no. |

I'd rather have him not do that and stay healthy than do. |

Before you nerds roast me, I would just like to come clean about something: I forget about Corey Perry when I made my list. Not sure why or how, but I did. Obviously he is a top 3 winger in the NHL. My bad. - James_Tanner
Let's get him fellow nerds!!

Tanner, two-way teams win championships. LA, Boston, Detroit, Chicago. All of those teams are/were phenomonal with their back checking and defensive plays. Offense wins you games, but defense wins you championships. - YzermanIsTheMan
That is such a bad argument. All of those teams would be better with Ovechkin. Ovechkin would be better if you got the players from those teams that are good at defense and put them on Washington. You're making several logical fallacies in your argument. |

Defense and goaltending wins championships. All those teams would obviously be better with Ovi but they won without him with guys like Martinez scoring Cup-winning OT goals. If Ovi had a supporting cast capable of playing defense as well as was more defensively responsible himself (he can have 11 defensive forwards on the team but they will still give up goals if he doesn't commit considering he'll lead them in TOI) the Caps will be golden. For example, put him on St. Louis and they likely win within 3 years. |

I think the relevance there is that kessel disappeared during the most important part of your season.

Except that there isn't. Defense wins you championships.
"Each team with be better with Ovechkin."
You're sort of right. Each team would've scored more goals if they had Ovechkin. But that's about it. He wouldn't have made them better as a whole team. His drive to score wouldn't have made up for the 200 foot game that a lot of the top six wingers played with. Not one of the top six wingers on those teams scored more than 40 goals during their SC winning years. I don't think really any topped 30ish. They don't need a 50 goal scorer. They needed a number one star center (Datsyuk, Bergeron, Kopitar, Toews), solid defense (Chara, Lidstrom, Doughty, Keith), a good-great goalie (Osgood, Niemi, Quick, Thomas, Crawford), and lots of depth (too many to name.)
You continuously state that scoring goals is SUPER IMPORTANT. But, its not THAT important. Depth and good defensive play is.
