Meh, depends which one you talk to. But it's hard to believe people still think Kessel is overrated. - peddy-93
Course he's overrated. Overrated like Phaneuf (although I have no idea who rates Dion anymore)
Take off your goggles. He plays for the Leafs. OVERRATED. |

[quote=YzermanIsTheMan]On the players you mentioned,
Kessel is younger (not as injury prone) and a better goal scorer, but Zetterberg is still a much better player. Even last year on a per game basis Zetterberg doesn't score as much as Kessel (still he projects out to 27-30 goals to Kessels 37) and is better in pretty much every other category.
Add in Zetterbergs defensive skills, and the ability to put a team on his (injured) back and carry it into the playoffs (like he did two years ago) and it's not even close. - noffsin6
Not going to agree or disagree with you. I'd just like to see how Kessel can do beside a real centre.
Perry - Getzlaf
Benn - Seguin
Ovechkin - Backstrom
Hall - RNH

Dion, he's been an over rated primadonna going back to his Calgary days. |

Let me rephrase that as the team as an entity. My dad HATED the Leafs, harkening back to the old rivalry and Original Six days. I guess I inherited that to a small extent and want to see the Leafs crushed when they face the Wings or anyone that might put them in a spot for playoff contention. As for players, I don't like Clarkson. His WBS% went through the roof last season and that scares me. |

Me too. Goals and assists are easy. It's the back checking that's the skill. I'd also put D.Sedin, patches, landeskog, backes and possibly clarke MacArthur ahead if him - walshyleafsfan

Maybe so, but I think he gets unfairly criticized on the Leafs. Considering everything. |

Craig Button already called Bozak a great talent, so that theory goes out the window. |

Its so hard to not love Zetterberg. He's a clutch performer, great goal scorer, one of the best in the league with and without the puck. He's just getting older and it shows from time to time. Still top six in my opinion.
Side note: Glad to see I'm not the only Wings fan on other threads besides Jurco_28 haunting the Leafs thread all the time. |

A better center might help his stats some. What Kessel (and the Leafs in general) really need is someone to show them how to be a complete player and what you have to do to win.
There aren't a lot of guys out there like that though, but Zetterberg is still one of them (when healthy). |

Tanner, two-way teams win championships. LA, Boston, Detroit, Chicago. All of those teams are/were phenomonal with their back checking and defensive plays. Offense wins you games, but defense wins you championships.

I think it's hard to find good offensive players who are also good defensive/back checkers. And those guys are the difference makers. |

Kessel had 6 points in 7 games in that series vs the Bruins. A team which everyone said he'd disappear against. He was a constant threat to them. |

On the players you mentioned,
I'd put Ovechkin, Benn, Perry, and Hall over Kessel. Kessel is a less flashy, higher scoring version of Kane and Zetterberg's years of scoring 40 or more are long over. The only reason to consider Zetterberg as near the top five is his completely dominating puck control and two-way play. - YzermanIsTheMan
Kaner is 10x as clutch because he has more elite skill. And did you just say only reason? |
