This is a frivolity but is it assistant captain or alternate captain? I've seen both used so I'm assuming there's no right or wrong here. I say alternate.

I say alternate as well.
Nice SAT word btw

Thanks

I've seen people go on rants about how it's alternate and then I've seen very knowledgeable hockey people use assistant (like Bill) which makes me think it's just a preference thing.

It's 'alternate' in the NHL rulebook.

6.2 Alternate Captains – If the permanent Captain is not on the ice, Alternate Captains (not more than two) shall be accorded the privileges of the Captain. Alternate Captains shall wear the letter “A” approximately three inches (3'') in height and in contrasting color, in a conspicuous position on the front of their sweaters.

Only when the Captain is not in uniform, the Coach shall have the right to designate three Alternate Captains. This must be done prior to the start of the game.

Meh. I think it's an either/or thing. If people actually argue about this, they need to reassess their priorities

I didn't think he looked awful or good, to be honest. That entire line was fairly invisible at 5-on-5.

Bill, on an unrelated note, and without trying to get too personal, do you think you'd accept a full-time writer job either for the Flyers a la panotch or for one of the papers? I know this is your chosen profession, and you do it very well, but it seems like you have a lot of freedom in your writing that may be diminished if you were more or less "forced" to cover certain topics. If you don't feel comofrtable answering, that's fine, but just thought I'd ask.

The Flyers are breaking the rules. Their away jersey "C" and "A" patches are white on white jerseys. The black outline of the letter is the only contrasting part.

Definitely room for concern.

Certainly, but I think what we see in the regular season is going to be far more telling then the pre season.

They need that Art Ross touch on PP2, in the G-spot.

Remember in 2003-04 or 2005-06 when the Sabres had something like 5 captains and every other player wore the A at least one game? That was crazy.

Sure do. I think Columbus has also been vacant since the Nash trade. Step on up, Mr. Hartnell.

Absolutely. Getting rid of the Hartnell contract, the necessary evil was taking back a dead man walking.

Leave it vacant until Boone Jenner gets another 2 years under his belt.
