Long enough to give TVR, Runbad, and Cumisky some extended audition time.

I hope Rundblad plays well enough to put Q in a difficult position. Q is stubborn and makes some poor decisions. His good marks as a coach do not count for everything. Playoff strategy nearly cost us a few times. Let there be confrontation between Q and Bowman. Let everyone get a fair opportunity to play. In the final analysis, Bowman has dome just about as good a job as he could. I loathe Q and he can move on as far as I am concerned.

I think, if he knew you, the feeling would prolly be mutual.

Thought so, I'll have to look again, it was earlier today after practice.

Sharp Toews Hossa
Bickell Richards Versteeg
Saad Shaw Kane
Morin Krueger Smith

I thought is what I saw. Been busy today though, maybe I was imagining it.

actually just looked, no, still show

Saad Richards Kane
Bickell Shaw Versteeg

Although, the video's say that Shaw played with Kane and Saad at practice today.

- vabeachbear

The Shaw line with Kaner and Saad really carried the play the other night against the Rags. I wouldn't be surprised at some point to see a possible third line of Sharp/Richards/Versteeg...if Sharp doesn't burn himself out early this season (no Olympics) and Versteeg regains his form (it's looking like he's got some jump here early) this could be a very interesting line.

Trading Leddy = Mistake ..... Signing Carbomb = Mistake ....Carbomb takes stupid penalties and then injures himself for long periods of time ... I don't know what stans been smoking but our 5/6 defense is weak as it was and now its worse still .
We have plenty of offense in all honesty and could of afford to get rid of Patrick Sharp and save us from this mess . I like Sharp but but he makes to much to be on this team and I am sick of his weak shot selection ( right in the goalies chest)
Yep ... they should of marketed him much earlier in the year instead of waiting for the last minute ....

Glad someone actually wrote this because I have been thinking it the last 24 hours ..........I agree on Leddy and Carcillo both being mistakes...big mistakes. Would have moved Versteeg....Rosival and kept Bickel on a short leash through November. Would much rather see Nordstrum Regin and Morin over Carcillo ...ridiculous weekend of moves

I think he's suggesting that it's more of a buddy system, not a translator. Rather than somebody to help with English, they get somebody to converse with in their native tongues.
- Lash8

>You are correct -- has absolutely nothing to do with a translator.
>Anyone who has needed to speak a second language most of the time, most of the day, knows that eventually you want to speak your native language from time to time.
>Having a buddy around is what a "language caddy" is.

If Stan kept Leddy how would he have shed salary next season? Leddy will want at least $4 million (likely more) and isn't a top 4 defenseman on our team. Versteeg may not be a star but if he's healthy we'll need him (and his $2.2 million cap hit) in the 15/16 season with the new deals for Kane and Toews kick in and a big contract (Sharp) is moved.

So how much would you have been willing to pay Leddy on a new contract after this year?

He certainly wasn't going to take less than Jake Gardner, Cam Fowler and a few others in hs age/experience group.

He won'r be an easy re-sign for NYI.

That would solve the cap ceiling question temporarily.

Who do you think gets traded at this point Al? Are you still thinking that Morin might go? Could it be someone else?

Yea, no.

Outside of Hammers contract, he has handed out some sweetheart deals that he didnt need to that have the hawks in the current position they are in, namely the $10 mil being allocated to Bickell and Crawford. The Khabibulin signing was a bad one as well (among others the past couple of years).

Again, dont get me wrong here, they absolutely deserve it, but the Kane and Toews contracts were cap breakers. 10.5 down the line isnt going to be terrible, but is sure isnt a hometown discount and is putting the team on squeeze in the near future

That is one area Bowman NEEDS to improve upon, getting better deals out of players

Agreed Ogi. Possibly the same thinking contributed to Hawks waiting to pull the trigger on the Leddy trade too.

The 3rd pairing derby could be entertaining to watch. It'll give the blogs something to discuss for sure...

I respectively think your wrong...NY Isles will sign him for what he is worth and we will regret this. It's all about future upside..... two of my friends here in PEI are NHL scouts........they both think Richards was a steal and that Leddy was a mistake.
22 year Dman that skate and move the puck like Leddy does are hard to find. Time will tell.

Wow.

You - we all - may question some / a lot of his decisions.

But how can you loathe a coach who was in charge of the bench for the only two championships in 53 years?

Two (frank)ing championships.

It's not like he was one of many who brought championships to the city.

He's making $2.7 now, he's not going to take a cut. Even at $3.0, it's to rich for the Hawks.

His qualifying offer will have to be at least $3.4MM - isn't that the starting point for him?

Leddy was a nice player but until his "upside" is actually realized, the return was fair in a salary dump move. He doesn't have the offensive instincts to be a big time scorer and is on the smaller side for NHL dmen.. I say good riddance. Obviously, we all wouldve preferred to move Rosival or Versteeg but apparently all 29 NHL teams hate the Hawks and wouldnt even take those 2 for a bag of pucks just to spite StanBo

I disagree with the highlighted. At least in this situation.

It's all about who fits under the cap that gives this team the best chance to win now. That's why Leddy is gone and Oduya is still here.

I get that Leddy could really blossom if given the chance with the Isles. Maybe to the point that I might someday "regret" that the organization let him get away. I hope nothing but the best for Leddy and I hope he does become what everyone says he could be.

Given the current cap situation, someone had to go. There will be more "someones" going next summer when the new Toews and Kane deals kick in. Given the current chances the Hawks have at winning another Stanley Cup this season, it makes more sense to go for it all now, even if it means sacrificing some future talent and upside.
