I think Buffalo put 2 guys on "retroactive IR" or something, so I could see Chicago doing that with him. When was the last time he played?
If he's going to be out for 3 weeks, it's only a matter of time when he'll be placed on IR. even a few weeks of savings will help you guys a bunch I'd think - stashu
Not as much as a healthy Versteeg - I had hopes for a big comeback for him. |

I just got the feeling watching Q being interviewed talking about Steeg's injury there was something he was hiding, like he wasn't really hurt, but he was, nudge, nudge. I don't think Q would be a good poker player, his face tells stories his mouth isn't saying. |

Why would they fake an injury? Versteeg has been playing really well and we are below the Cap... |

You find conspiracies everywhere - even if they only include one person and his face. |

Did you see the interview? Maybe that is the way he is, but man something was not right. |

yes, he is. But the phrase that got me was when Q said "He was really bummed by it". You figure if a player is injured (to be out 3 weeks), "We" would be bummed by that. |

I think Q's "smugness" is not in regular season form. Whenever he is asked about injuries he gets the "I know something you dont know face" and replies Lower/upper body and when asked about severity or time he reverts to the day to day, a little while or similar.

On what basis? The guy has been a compete stiff everywhere since leaving the Hawks after 2010. If you believe in past performance charts there is just nothing to make anybody believe he will contribute to a winning team. |

I remember in grade school kids would wear the "North/South Side Polish" jackets to school. Good stuff. Imagine doing that now? Someone would complain that its a gang thing or something. |

Poles for Blackhawks! My family referes to our backgound as Heinz 57. Gram spoke/wrote 7 languages. Back then the boarders shifted. So besides Pol you had to learn Czec, Russian, Bohemian, German and good ol English

Actually, Versteeg's best season in terms of points came in 2011-12 when he had 54, which is one point more than what he had with the Hawks his first year (but in less games). In 2010-11 when he was split between the Leafs and Flyers, he still put up a decent 46 points for the season, which is better than his second year with the Hawks. He was only in 10 games in 2012-13 and he was recovering the following year. It's the playoffs he hasn't been impressive with since his first run with the Hawks, but he's still a .55 overall, which is decent.
Either way, Versteeg is a consistent above average 3rd line player when healthy, especially in the regular season. His career average is .59, good for 7th best forwards on the Hawks right now behind Kane, Toews, Hossa, Richards, Sharp, and Saad. It's completely possible that he could be that again, it's just unknown right now. I don't want him in the top 6 again, but it's unfair to say he hasn't done okay away from the Hawks. |

For some off the cuff comedy..
Bleacher Report put up a playoff story as to who is in and what not. They have the Preds beating the Blues in the first round. Wow... Don't see the Preds making it let alone beating a team like the Blues. And they have LA beating us in the Conference Finals??? No way 19 lets that happen. Is it Thursday yet?!?!?!

Depends on if Rinne is healthy because he can steal a series ala Mike Smith. The Blues are by far the superior team (top 3 in the West imo), but it's not out of the realm of possibility that Rinne could get the Preds to a 2nd round. Unlikely, but not impossible.
The Preds might be a wildcard if COL has issues. I think central will send 5 teams again this year. |

They really need to be better defensively this season. The forwards really need to be committed to playing better in their own zone this season. Too many times forwards aren't where they need to be to give the D-men some support and a place to pass the puck. - Elbows15
Agree. Not trying to bust balls but they now have one less option clearing the zone. At least leddy could motor it out himself if necessary. Time will tell if anyone else can. The more help the forwards cna give the less it's necessary. |

Well, certainly points don't mean everything, but:
With Chicago
2008-09. 22 goals. 31 assists. 53 points. 17:02 ATOI
2009-10. 20 goals. 24 assists. 44 points. 15:44 ATOI
With Toronto / Philadelphia / Miami
2010-11. 21 goals 25 assists. 46 points. 17:44 ATOI
2011-12. 23 goals. 31 assists. 54 points. 16:53 ATOI
2012-13. Injured, only 10 games
Looks pretty consistent to me over four healthy seasons with consistent third-line minutes.
If he can get back to theses numbers this year - and he's only 28 - no reason why he shouldn't - certainly helps solidify the third line here. |

Saw them open for Blue Oyster Cult once. Frampton was long gone but Steve Marriott was still there. |

I watched him play on a bad Maple Leaf team and he stunk but the Flyers figured he must be worth a shot and coughed up a couple draft picks for him. Then they unloaded him to Florida to recoup the draft picks and Tallon gave him 4 years and about $17M which he wasn't worth and then dumped him and ate half the deal. So ya he's done OK - at the bank.
Maybe he will be a contributor, I just wouldn't spend much time hoping for it. Especially now that he seems to be collecting injuries. As the saying goes - past performance is no indication of future success.
