Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are effing awesome -- wanna put 'em higher but not sure how to do it

I'd like to add a few guys, but the body of work is all over the place-Eric Johnson, Pat Metheny, Knopfler, as well.

Actually, I wrote about the organization installing that.

The hard working lunch pail stuff is admirable, but it's one facet. To me the discipline aspect is every but as important, playing the right way. Rinaldo is a perfect example of the developmental aspect I think the Flyers lose sight of. They had Carcillo, who had worn out his welcome, and figured, we have Rinaldo.

The problem is, Rinaldo was an undisciplined hot head in juniors, an undisciplined hot head in the AHL and was never really held up or had it beaten in his head at a lower level. He had one full season in the AHL. Had the Flyers not immediately sent him to the NHL, maybe he learns to play a more disciplined, all around game at the AHL level and avoids his NHL reputation.

To me, a team can start instilling accountability with a strong developmental system, and then it's something that's ingrained as guys progress, rather than have to hope guys pick it up and show it when they're thrust into positions of leadership

I'm not debating anything your saying, just trying to get a bead on what the flyers are doing. For w/e reason they like this Rinaldo kid.

Definitely. Not a huge fan myself of Page's non Zeppelin work. May is great. Queen is one of the best bands of all time imo.

I liked the Coverdale Page album, the Firm was really disappointing, and the Page/Plant stuff was interesting, but definitely not Zeppelin

Well I'm thinking the mindset of hextall is to get these guys in the mindset of the Keenan era, the Only way I can describe that is; think Pete rose on ice. Hustle hustle hustle, work, sleep eat, more hustle. I even once heard Pat Croce say that Dave Poulin was the hardest working athlete he encountered and I have to say it showed. Back in those days it always felt like anything was possible. I think that's the mindset and template they want.

Without a doubt, work ethic, and fitness are a big part of it. The only way this team can play with the better teams, is to match their work ethic and intensity. Especially when it comes to skating. If they don't move their feet, they're in trouble. And the other thing is all playing the same way, and playing a 200 foot game. If you watch LA play, while there are certainly talent discrepancies in the lineup. For the forwards 1-12, they all play the same way. They all skate hard, pressure the puck, and they all play all 200 feet of the rink. Especially in their own end. The Flyers have to become that type of team, if they have any hope in the playoffs. And it's the only way that they can make up for the deficiencies they have in their lineup. Barring a player move.

My bad. They obviously like that he works his ass off, he's physical and doesn't back down. I guess they see a guy who they feel can get better and maybe develop into a Lappy type guy.

I just wish they had worked more of the bugs out in the AHL, in terms of the accountability angle

Agreed. That culture has to be ingrained in the Organization. From the Phantoms on up.

No bad at all and you're right at least IMO that they should've worked the bugs out in AHL but apparently that ship is sailed. I'll say this; the team seems committed to some things that, if you remember I was skeptical about this time last year, developing their youth, hard work and not selling their souls for free agents.

I just want to see the Flyers do what other teams who have had success do. That's not to say the Flyers have been unsuccessful, but you see the systems built by Detroit, Boston, LA & Chicago and it's such a huge benefit.

Boston & Chicago solved cap issues by trading good defensemen for significant returns because they had the depth to fill the holes. It would be great to have that in Philly.

No doubt. Some of his solo stuff is strange for lack of a better word. I think Plant is a good singer, not great. I think his songwriting with Zeppelin was amazing.

So, a few predictions for the season:

1. Mark Streit hits 50 points

2. Brayden Schenn is consistent from start to finish, gets 28 goals and 63 points

3. Jakub Voracek gets 75 points and makes the All-Star team

4. Blair Jones won't score much, but he will work hard and we will appreciate that he wants to be in the NHL more than most

5. The only defenseman on the roster who is safe is Streit. I think, if Coburn/MacDonald struggle, that Coburn is more vulnerable to getting flipped this season than at any point in his Flyers career

It remains to be seen if Boston fills the hole left by trading Boychuk.

I want the Flyers to make their own path. I remember lots of complaints about the Flyers always trying to chase the Cup, by trying to form their team similar to whoever won last. I think in the same way that Holmgren did, Hextall has his own vision of what he wants to do. And I don't think it has anything to do with any other team, and how they did it. Nor should it.

Potentially, what would the Flyers be flipping Coburn for? A better defenseman? Draft picks?

I agree with # 1, # 3, # 4

I think B. Schenn is going to struggle with his consistency. Even though he is playing with supremely talented players in Giroux, and Voracek I think he's too streaky. I believe he will end up being replaced on the top line.

As far as the defenseman go, I think that MacDonald contract is damn near impossible to move.

I think they would be looking more to maximize the value of the player because of returned assets, while changing the mix of the defense as well as creating some extra cap room. I don't think they would necessarily be looking for another defenseman.

I think, if Coburn/MacDonald struggle, we could very well see Ghost get called up quickly and were a Coburn move to be made, something like

MacDonald-Streit
Grossmann-Ghost
Del Zotto-Schenn

No, that's not a great defense. I think that this could simply be the year that Hextall looks at it and says, if they are struggling, that the pieces just aren't going to fit and it's time to move some guys off the roster.

I don't want to trade Coburn; never have. But if the defense is struggling, I simply think that they won't run the same guys out there for 82 straight games.

My post said that I think Coburn would be the most vulnerable he's ever been, not that I want to trade him. He simply has the most value.

I personally don't see that happening. For Coburn to be moved, things would have to go awfully bad. I think it's far more likely that a player like Coburn would be moved in the off season. I think Hextall is smart enough to know that a defense with 4 finesse puck movers isn't going to cut it in the NHL.
I could see Gostisbihere replacing an ineffective Del Zotto at some point. I can also see Hextall thinking that if things are that bad, why bring a young defenseman up, who's likely to have some rough patches, to play on a struggling team. And as usual, injuries are the wild card.

I don't think the Flyers are anywhere near a position that sees Coburn getting traded. I do think Del Zotto should worry. I have some concerns with MacDonald but not many with Coburn.

I think Brayden Schenn can go either way. He's played two and a half seasons. No, correction, two seasons if you consider he was hurt or in the minors his rookie year with the Flyers and then the following season was a half season. I most certainly do not believe he is what he is and is more then capable of a breakout season. Believing Schenn is what he is would be the same mistake we made with JvR.
