Seriously I always thought this whole concept that an enforcer "stops" opposing players from taking runs to be a bit exaggerated. Flyer players have been getting "run" at for years even with enforcers on the roster. Ask Eric lindros

Bill -- seems like we should be moving a defenseman this season, hopefully for some draft picks. Who do you see as the most viable candidate for a trade? Grossman? Schenn? someone else?

Absolutely. The only star the Flyers had that really never had to deal with that was Clarkie, because back then if anyone touched him, there'd be four guys jumping the poor bastard. That doesn't work anymore.

The Isles season depends a lot on Halak. The defensive additions help to, but if Halak can be as solid as he was with the Blues, and Tavares stays healthy, they could easily be a playoff team.
They have a good core there, at least for this season. If they lose Boychuk as a UFA, they will have wasted some significant assets for one year

- Jsaquella

Exactly. It seems that it's a win now plan and I want no part of that philosophy. Hasn't worked. Plan for a window of 2 or 3 years down the road. However, I want to see them make the playoffs now (not at any costs)to continue the progress and learning of the young forward corps and mason.

Islanders really making a splash in upgrading their D in the short term. Going to be a really interesting in this Division.. Might be a struggle for us to make the playoffs.
- Hextall271

Isles look good.

They also got a bunch of solid free agents.. Halak, Grabovski , Kulemin, Skille.
and Strome (picked ahead of Couturier and Scheifele) ..will be playing 2nd line and is a very talented player.

After dealing away many of their picks next year, Snow may need the playoffs now to keep his gig. Short term, they're good deals. But in 3 years, they might be awful, espcially if they only get limited use of Boychuk and Leddy.

Could the Flyers use more size up front? Sure. However having a goon skate 4-5 minutes on the 4th line is not the solution.

The contending teams don't dress enforcers ? The Bruins have Thorton. The. Blackhawks dressed Carcillo during one of the years they won the cup and just reaquired him. If the flyers reaquired Carcillo, you guys would riot in the streets.

Carcillio is not an enforcer, he's a pest. And Rinaldo is a better fighter than him.

I only see them moving a dman during the season if Alt or Hagg play so well in the AHL that they force their way on the team and make Grossmann or LSchenn expendable.

If Ghost forces his way on the Flyers they can just replace MDZ with him and demote Schultz.

The only other way is if they're out of the race at the TDL and figure they can get a good return for a veteran. If that's the case, I could see them being active, as the TDL usually yields a higher price than an off season move

Is it wrong for me to read about sanheim's play and think to myself that in a few years the flyers will have a real number 1 defenseman?

So, if the Flyers reaquired Carcillo, no one on this board would have a problem with it? I doubt that. I have not been on this board a long time, but I bet if I went back and looked, many people would have had nothing but criticism for him when he was on the Flyers. When you only play a few minutes a night, it's difficult to be effective and improve as a player. Rosehill can skate which is a huge plus for a big man. Paul Holmgren started out as nothing but a goon and scored 30 goals one year. Dave Schultz scored 20 goals. There is a long list of players who get in the league with their fists and develop other skills.
- Bergey

i would. because he's an undisciplined jit bag who poop on the team/fans/city on his way out. (frank) him.

Slide Raffl or Akeson into his spot, Jones onto 4th line, and pray he heals fast
