it's still brooklyn, which i think is a dump...but i guess their players can live in manhattan and drive in.

Gentrification my friend. Rich white kids have taken that borough over. Guys in their 20's/early 30's will love it there.

Looking at this year only I like the Isle's D better, but we undoubtably have stronger D prospects coming up. In 2-3 years when we're looking at something like this it wont even be a worthy comparison.

Ghost/Coburn
Hagg/Morin
Sanheim/Streit

I hope so too, but the question was this year. I like our forward depth and I think our goaltending but I too would take their D. I think they have the best player on either team (Tavares). The AMAC contract could really come back to bite the Flyers (you could argue it already has as they couldn't bid on other UFAs). Me no likey.

I'll take AMac and his contract over pretty much every major offseason D signing from this past summer

And I'd still take another one if they are the best available. Did think they'd add another forward at least in the past draft but still like it overall.

I disagree.

The Isles got a lot better but they still don't have close to the depth up front that we do.

Plus the D men we have coming up in our system will likely assert us right back over them anyway should they look better than us this year.

- hereticpride

Their D is better though, significantly. And while the future is bright for the Flyers, right now, I'd have to say the Isles are better

EDIT: and quite honestly, as far as long term moves, I think the Isles overpaid for both.

If you go back to 1997 and said, two guys on this Flyers team will be NHL GMs in 17 years, would anyone have guessed Hextall & Snow? I'd have said Ducky & Otto, or maybe Brind'Amour.

EDIT: technically 3, with The Cabbage being out in Edmonton

I will however laugh my butt off if the Isles miss the playoffs, and, IMO, they are far from a lock

Do we have to go through this?

I would have taken (contract included) Stralman, Boyle and Ehrhoff. Possibly Niskanin but the book is still out on that one.

I guess we will need to agree to disagree. I don't like the amount or the amount of years or the timing of the deal. And yes, the UFA market is a poor place to pick up that D man, so possibly a trade was in order (not sure it was there). The Timonen situation is the X factor of course. And I will not comment further because we have literally (yes I am using that correctly) been discussing this for 3 months.

I just had Arby's.

I like their core. Tavares, Okposo, Grabner, Grabovsky, Neilsen, Bailey up front, Vishnovsky, Hamonic, Leddy & Boychuk on D, Halak is a huge upgrade in goal over last year's mess.

I agree they are not a lock. Same could be said of many teams in the East. Gutsy move. But that franchises (and for Snows job security) really needed to go for it.

If I wasn't working I would have had actual edible food. But I had 20 minutes to drive from Sea Isle to Cape May Point. I was starving

Isles moves make me uncomfortable but remember while Boychuck is good Leddy is over rated. If either goes down they are back to where they were before not to mention if Tavares misses a lot of time. Not a lot of depth on the Isles. I'd be more comfortable losing Giroux than Tavares.
