They do try to get things rolling through him, his team has lost 6 straight, offensive help will be needed from others as well.

I don't think the beats are writing this on their own. I think that's what they got from the Flyers. And the numbers add up. Using Option 2 doesn't change much from what the beats are saying the Flyers are doing.

I don't understand how using Option 2 with Pronger and White before the deadline, then using LTIR again with Kimmo after the deadline works.

Waiving and demoting Rosehill. Placing Pronger and White on LTIR at the end of camp, leaves the Flyers at $68,945,000. This makes them cap compliant coming out of camp. Timonen is on regular IR, not LTIR. They will not place Timonen on LTIR until they have to.
The difference is, that instead of including a couple of players, and then once the season starts demoting them to create cap space needed. The Flyers have another LTIR candidate they can put there to create cap space when needed.

So with White and Pronger on LTIR the upper limit will be $74,461,429.

But they can increase that upper limit by another $2 million if they put Kimmo on LTIR sometime after the season starts.

No, with Rosehill demoted, and Pronger and White on LTIR. The Flyers Upper Limit is 69,000,000. With those moves they are 55,000 under the Upper Limit at 68,945,000.

But that's not how Option 2 works according to the capgeek FAQ.

Put the injured player on LTIR on the final day of training camp and, including the injured player’s annual average salary or cap hit, build a roster that exceeds the upper limit by an amount that is as close as possible to the injured player's annual average salary.

Last year Detroit began the season with an upper limit of $67,600,378 despite the salary cap being $64,300,000.

That is only one example of using Option 2. Detroit had to do that to one, maximize the LTIR space, and to have working cap space for the season. The Flyers already built a roster that exceeds the Upper Limit. Before placing White and Pronger on LTIR, they're $5,461,429 over the cap. The only difference is that they don't have to include players that they later have to demote to get working cap space.

You know what, now that I think about it. I'm screwing it up. You're right, the cap geek calculator basically removes the cap hits when placing players on LTIR. That is technically wrong. So my previous post about the Flyers Upper Limit is wrong. I confused myself.

Technically, placing Pronger and White on LTIR gets them Cap compliant, and their Upper Limit is $74,461,429.

Your previous post, pasted below, is correct. My apologies for the confusion. Sometimes this Cap crap makes me dizzy.

"So with White and Pronger on LTIR the upper limit will be $74,461,429.

But they can increase that upper limit by another $2 million if they put Kimmo on LTIR sometime after the season starts. "
