i agree with your reasoning on Tokarski/Budaj. how can they can risk losing Tokarski to keep Budaj after what happened in May? they would look a bit incompetent and it seems like they would be making the decision for the wrong reasons, which is an injustice to the team. - DoubleDown
If there's no trade worth doing for Tokarski before the season starts, I completely agree with you. |

While I get your point, do you really think that, if Price goes down comes playoffs time, having Tokarski over Budaj will be that much of a difference in the end? - Scabeh
playoff time? yes, a little. i don't think Montreal would have gotten the goaltending from Budaj they got from Tokarski against NY. and the bigger issue is if Price goes down for a month in the regular season. that's where the biggest difference would be. |

I'm not suggesting they should keep Tokarski.
I'm saying, if they trade Tokarski now, instead of taking the risk of losing him for nothing on waivers, they could always find a competent backup later in the year/at the deadline.
A team out of the playoffs, for example, could trade their backup on an expiring contract, for Budaj who's on an expiring contract as well. - Pecafan Fan
Fair enough. |

And be in the market for a backup goalie for the playoffs, since Budaj clearly can't get the job done when it matters? - Pecafan Fan
Let's just hope Kredier doesn't take PRice's knees again. |

wasn't it you and other marty the other day saying that no one would even think about claiming Tokarski let alone trading for him? |

I thought he'd be of no value, but since Lavoie said some teams called Bergevin regarding him, I have to go with a scenario that makes sense. |

Claim yes.
Never said anything about trading him.
We probably did say that the secondary goalie market is ... well... not very bug. |

And I think this was considered heavily when they decided to go with Tokarski vs the Rangers. |

this is really what it comes down to. how can they justify what they did last year if they believe Budaj's a better option should that scenario unfold? seems they made that call already, no? |

you should get a composite shaft and use wood blades. that will bring you out of the dark ages but still maintain some weight on the stick. |

The way I see it, Budaj had played bad and Toka stepped inand got hot and ket the job until the Habs got eliminated.
Doesn't mean that the Habs brass think that Budaj is not as good as Toka. |
