They were impressed that, unlike some other 30+ goal scorers, he decided not to spend his summers training at Dunkin Donuts, scratching his, um, nad. - WillieAA
LOL... Phil "The Michelin Tire" Kessel. The "thrill" is as overrated as hes overweight right now. |

7.25 in today's market is a steal for Bobby Ryan. 7.25 puts him T-17th in terms of salaries league wide.
It's safe to assume salaries are going to start to skyrocket (see Toews, Kane, Subban deals), meaning that in 2-3 years, that deal is going to look really good. - Jordo
Ryan isnt even close to the bolded names, wake up people |

Assistant captian by comittee , dont ruin Karlsson by putting the C on him.
Also I dont think Ryan is what you would build your team around, he isnt in the top ten in the league,imo...I think they paid to much - cscbloggin
LOL. So you need a top 10 player to build a team. Was bergeron or any player on the Bruins a top 10 player when they won the cup? Nope. As a Bruins fan you surprise me with this comment, because Bruins is one living example that you don't need a superstar to have a competing team on a nightly basis. |

Ryan is more valuable than Subban IMO... because Subban's real value is as such:
Subban Value - Josh Georges - Gionta = Real value.
Don't forget that in the process of signing Subban they lost two solid leaders in their locker room. Subban is way overpriced at 9M per year. I don't think you can say that Ryan is that overpriced.

4x30 hahaha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you play with getzy and Perry and you to my friend would probably pick up 30 goals as well.... You will see - cscbloggin
He actually didn't play much with those two. He also was on the 2nd PP unit.
Most of the offense he produced in Anaheim, he did it himself. |

I grew up with his cousins so I always have had a special affection for the kid and wanted to see him in Philly one day but I honestly can't see paying him 7.25. I cringed at Giroux making 8. I dunno, maybe its just the going rate but seems like too much to me. - nastyflyergirl
Cringed at Giroux making 8??? Yeah ok then. What would you suggest that would have been fair price for a point per game player? |

It's a great deal for Ottawa. They just locked up a 27 year old 30+goal scorer for the entire prime of his career. It doesn't hamstring them cap-wise since they still have more room than nearly every team in the league.
Bobby Ryan is a first line winger on any NHL team right now. And they've got him for the entire prime of his career. I can't see how you can rationalize this not being a 'good' deal for the Senators.
If his was a deal that put them right up against the salary cap, it would still be a good deal because they got a first line player locked up for the entire prime of his career.
Quit hatin' bro. |

All due respect Ottawa, but just because this was your best option doesn't make it a good one. Of all the "superstars" in the league, Bobby Ryan is at best in the lower echelon. I wish him all the best, but I think you're going to find three years in, this is a contact you will wish you could get out of. If he fails to produce, he's going to be practically untradable. |

Yeah and then who knows what the standards will be?? 12M? 15M? per!? - Raven33
I'll worry about that 3 years from now, when the team is in Brooklyn under our new owners. |

56 of 70 points in 10/11 season had one or both of Perry/Getzlaf on his line
39 of 64 in 09/10
32 of 57 in 08/09
22 of 57 in 11/12
14 of 30 in 12/13
Many of the points he didn't get with either of those two came with some scrub with the first name of something like...Teemu?? Others with some other scrub named Saku something... |

Cringed at Giroux making 8??? Yeah ok then. What would you suggest that would have been fair price for a point per game player? - RobFlyers#1
Exactly, thank you for saying that.
People cringing at players salaries makes no sense. Giroux is elite, he should get paid to be elite. Ryan, despite what the haters say, is ELITE. He absolutely is. And he is going to get paid to be elite.
The only time you should cringe over a long term big money deal is when you've given it to a guy who isn't elite. For reference, see what Toronto did with Clarkson. No one would be complaining about that if Clarkson was scoring 30 goals. They paid him to do that, but that's not the player he is. So he became untradeable, and a burden against their cap, since they are a team that continually spends to the cap.
But elite guys get paid a ton of cash to do this. That's pro sports for ya. |

I disagree with your assessment of his talent. I think he's going to struggle to get 50 points on a team with no talent, and I think there are a handful of teams where he would not be on the first line. |
