People cringing at players salaries makes no sense. Giroux is elite, he should get paid to be elite. Ryan, despite what the haters say, is ELITE. He absolutely is. And he is going to get paid to be elite.

The only time you should cringe over a long term big money deal is when you've given it to a guy who isn't elite. For reference, see what Toronto did with Clarkson. No one would be complaining about that if Clarkson was scoring 30 goals. They paid him to do that, but that's not the player he is. So he became untradeable, and a burden against their cap, since they are a team that continually spends to the cap.

But elite guys get paid a ton of cash to do this. That's pro sports for ya.
