Never been to Winnipeg.

But do know people living there... doesn't sound like a great place to live.

Never been either but have a niece who lives there because of her hubby's work and it's not a fun/good place to live at...

Yeah, I've been there a couple of times, its pretty lame. And extremely bad crime. I just moved to Ottawa and love it here. University girls are great views

I don't think you've got a good read on where the Sens are at. If some of their younger talent takes a step forward this year I think we'll see them begin to attract a UFA or two and could be right in the mix within 1-2 years.

I'm not really sure if Bobby Stevenson is going to be a force in 3-4 years but he is their top forward today and by the time they are competitive he won't be the 17th highest paid player in the league, he'll be getting paid to be a top-40ish player and shouldn't fall far from that. You can't really be that upset he didn't take a discount to play on a team that is years away.

All that said, Ryan is a bit of an enigma. With his background you could wonder if he's all in on hockey for life, or if as he continues to work through his past, he decides hockey isn't quite as important to him any more.

7.25 in today's market is a steal for Bobby Ryan. 7.25 puts him T-17th in terms of salaries league wide.

It's safe to assume salaries are going to start to skyrocket (see Toews, Kane, Subban deals), meaning that in 2-3 years, that deal is going to look really good.

- Jordo

How is paying a guy who was 100th in league scoring the 17th highest salary a steal?
This is a good deal if he regains his 30-35 goal/65-70point form, but if he keeps putting up 20 goals and 50 pts its a bit of an overpayment.

sens needed to make this happen after moving spezza. the Karlsson contract looks godly now

He actually didn't play much with those two. He also was on the 2nd PP unit.

Most of the offense he produced in Anaheim, he did it himself.

That's incorrect.

Are Leafs fans really trying to trash this deal......Look what you guys paid Clarkson last year for what you get compared to what Ottawa just gave Ryan for what they are getting from him. And if anyone thinks he wouldn't have gotten 8+M per year on the open market your insane. Look at the crazy contracts that get thrown around on July 1st for non star players, you put a real star in there (Bobby Ryan is whether you like it or not, or agree or not, its true), and he would of been PAID!

He played the majority of last year through a sports hernia, and still got 50 pts playing on a team which had about everything possible go wrong for them.

Ryan was an RFA, Clarkson was a UFA.

The Ryan deal compares more to the Kessel deal, which makes phils 8 mil per look like a bargain

LOL. So you need a top 10 player to build a team. Was bergeron or any player on the Bruins a top 10 player when they won the cup? Nope. As a Bruins fan you surprise me with this comment, because Bruins is one living example that you don't need a superstar to have a competing team on a nightly basis.

Tim Thomas won the Vezina that year. Chara was a top 10 defender.

He was hurt for 2/3 of the season last year. He's entering his prime and we have him under contract for its entirety so lets give him a couple of years before judging him on last year! And last year + this year, he'll be making 5M, not 7M!!!
Bolded is what people will say in 2-3 years for Bobby!

It's a great deal for Ottawa. They just locked up a 27 year old 30+goal scorer for the entire prime of his career. It doesn't hamstring them cap-wise since they still have more room than nearly every team in the league.

Bobby Ryan is a first line winger on any NHL team right now. And they've got him for the entire prime of his career. I can't see how you can rationalize this not being a 'good' deal for the Senators.

If his was a deal that put them right up against the salary cap, it would still be a good deal because they got a first line player locked up for the entire prime of his career.

Quit hatin' bro.

- the_terror

Uhh, no he's not. Leafs for one.

And umm, aren't Sens fans themselves trying to claim he got pushed to the second line in Anaheim.

So, reviewing contracts, you are saying that Kessel (one-dimensional winger) is almost as good as Crosby? Or is better than Stamkos?

I could continue if more comparables are required....

When you say “everything go wrong”, does that include the leagues least man games lost to injury? Career highs by a couple of players as well?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Bobby Ryan is a first line winger on many teams in the NHL.
