...while AMac wandered off toward Mason leaving his check, Fehr, all alone in the high slot.
- 77rams

You should look at the replay, he didn't wander off. A shot was taken so he turned around to see where the puck was. It was blocked and dropped right on Fehr's stick. MacDonald didn't leave his check and was right next to Fehr in between Fehr and Mason.

I have also accepted the fact that a shoutout equals 1 point.
I can't recall the last time they scored first in a shootout

- 3flyerkids

maybe the final game against the rangers in 2010. i know briere and giroux scored, i just forget who scored first.

I don't like the top pairing, but I don't think MacDonald did much wrong on the 2nd goal. People are just taking their frustrations out on him.

I don't think so either. Now on the first goal, that's a different story.

Have a feeling, if Morin's not around, that we might see this one

If we do, Coburn-Grossmann's defensive-zone starts and QoC will be off the charts

No he didn't. He was right directly in front of Fehr and the net. It's clear on the replay that he did not leave his check.

If MDZ can play like he did at his best under Fonzie and if Grossmann could stay healthy all year, I just might move AMac and keep Morin. However, those are 2 HUGE ifs and I'm still not sure that Morin is ready.

The pairings that played tonight, are likely to stay in tact. At least for the start. Only thing that might change is if they keep Morin and get him in for some games.

Yeah, my main grievance was the first. In a perfect world, Amac ties up the stick if he can't see the puck, but it happens.

He slipped a few spots from last year, right? I know it doesn't matter, but how does a Hart Trophy finalist fall?

They really need it to work -- it's preseason, and I agree with you on the second goal. Sometimes poop happens. He was there.

But that first one...let's just say there are other ways to play that.

Morin's not ready -- I've acknowledge it all along. I know he isn't.

But if Del Zotto hadn't played better tonight, which I think he did, I'd have played Morin next week, with absolutely no hesitation.

Bad decision on that one to give way too much room, and even worse, I thought he was lackadaisical with his stick in the attempt to block the shot. Has to be better then that on that play. But overall, played a solid game. Played a lot against the Backstrom-Ovechkin line and did a good job against them. But it's pre season. I don't think other then on the PP, that Ovechkin was very enthused.

He was better in that he was more aggressive. That was missing from earlier games. I want to see him moving up on the play, using his skating, and getting involved in the offense. He was playing too much like a 3rd pair stay at home guy in earlier games. And way too cautious. Like he lacked confidence.

New Jersey won in a shootout!?!?!

EDIT: And the Oilers haven't registered a shot in four powerplays while the canucks have a shortie.

Exactly -- I get what the guy is going through. He's had it beaten into his head to take care of his end, and this is his third system/team in a year.

But he's gotta skate and he's gotta move up. At some point, he's gotta find the balance -- which I know isn't easy.

But he isn't a shutdown defender, and he's likely never going to be. He's gotta use common sense, but sometimes, he's gonna have to take risks. Otherwise you might as well play someone else.
