They aren't a poop team, but they aren't very good. The game was played at a preseason pace as well.

Flyers played well tonight, but I need to see more before I can say they're a good two-way team.

- PhillySportsGuy

I agree with the latter. In the end it's a pre season game. And the Flyers have to show they can play a consistent puck pressure, solid game defensively throughout the season.

AMac loses his man for the game tier and we lose in the shoot out.

We're in mid-season form.

Seriously though, pretty good game despite the above obnoxious observations.

MacDonald didn't lose his man, he had tight coverage. He lost sight of the puck, and on a lucky bounce, it dropped right on Fehr's stick, after the initial shot was blocked.

They're changing the number on his sweater from 50 to 20 as we speak.

Pretty decent, overall -- ultimately, they only gave up two goals. The first one is one you'd rather not see scored. They seem like they're ready to play the system, win more than they lose.

The shootout was what it always was

I thought they played well. Their PP was lethal, but didn't connect. So many chances, so much pressure...just couldn't get a good bounce or 2. If Simmer plays tonight (and thus is in front on the PP) I say they take this one in regulation.

It was all Flyers in the OT period. Again- just couldn't get one past Peters. There was a sequence where Del Zotto received a pass from the corner in the slot, spin o rama backhand passed it to Vinny in his normal spot on the bench side circle, who one touched it back to MDZ on Peters' blocker side. He couldn't bury it. Peters made a great save. It was a hell of a play.

They had plenty of chances. It was one of those games where if they play like this they'll win 7/10 times.

Pairing MacDonald with Coburn might be the thing that gets Berube fired. Hopefully he realizes that sooner rather than later.

Outplayed the Caps but lost in a shootout. They had chances on the PP but just couldn't pot one.

Flyers allowed the game tying goal with a minute left.

Game was played at a preseason pace.

...while AMac wandered off toward Mason leaving his check, Fehr, all alone in the high slot.

I'd rather see:
Coburn-Schenn
AMac-Streit
Grossmann-MDZ

And if MDZ really can't be a pro and use his mobility to play his off side, than move him and bring up Ghost.

MDZ can't play the right side. Lots of NHL defensemen are like that.

I've always felt Coburn plays best with a defense partner that he knows where he is/will be and who doesn't take too many risks.

It might work, because as you say, we haven't seen it. But the way Streit plays, with a few giveaways that offensive players make, might be hard on Coburn

Somebody said it earlier, but if MacDonald-Coburn is getting lit up, then you are gonna have to do something sooner than later, like Coburn-Grossmann
