whats up with these guys fighting with shields? isn't there a rule they should take them off, I remember Richards would always take his off

I thought it was a rule as well. O'Brien didn't seem to get it called on him for his fight with Rinaldo.

The Leafs let Schenn play through his valleys. I'm more worried about Morin not being NHL ready, because I don't think he is right now.
- Jsaquella

Schenn, I believe made the Leafs the year of his draft....I'm on the fence....I think he has the skills now to play ahead of a few in the top 6, but I also think Ghost can as well...it depends on the individual....I hope they keep him for 9 games and see how he progresses....he doesn't hurt the Flyers chances of winning fo sure.

My comment was directed at us the fans, sitting back and watching this kid develop if he makes it past the first 9 games. It will be rough at times, but it doesn't mean he still can't turn into a great d-man going forward.

I meant its really not the way of the Flyers fans to just sit back and let things play out

I know. It's so frustrating. He can see he has help coming too. If he forces the rookie wide and gets beat, he has the help from Coburn and the forwards to get there.

Backing in is the only possible way that goal was going to be scored.

- PhillySportsGuy

Coburn was just as guilty there, but we've seen the degree that this sort of thing plagues MacDonald

I don't give a rat's ass if he can play now. I know he could play now. I also know that he could use a lot more polish to his game, especially when it comes to the offensive side of things and positional hockey.

That's my main objection. He's had more good than bad, but he's definitely had moments that say to me that he would benefit by more seasoning.

One thing I'll say is this: If Morin staying is linked to someone just taking a contract of one of the defensemen off our hands, I'm not exactly certain what team that would be.

Doesn't mean it can't happen, but a lot of teams are either at their internal budgets or are capped out, and I definitely hadn't heard of anyone having the kind of injuries where finding a trading partner is easy

I just think every player is different. I think the real detriment to a young player learning in the NHL is when the coach doesn't play him in his role (ie Sbisa, Coots under Lava). That is the gripe, I have with the organization. If they feel he can develop better in the NHL then the CHL, so be it. Just continue to play these guys when they get into a slump and don't demote them or place them in the Cote suite for an extended period of time.

That's your opinion, not saying it's wrong, but some guys develop better then others while turning pro earlier. I think it makes sense to keep him for at least the 9 games and then if he regresses or plateau's...send him back north......worst case he goes back and focus's on areas that he needs work on........it's also a nice taste and incentive for the kid.

I think the primary point people are trying to make is that leaving a player in Juniors for an extra year won't hurt his development. It might delay his development, but it won't hurt.

Bringing him up too soon could hurt his development.

People view it as an unnecessary risk. It's not as if he dominated Juniors last year either. Kid's still got a long way to go imo.

One good thing is that the Flyers have looked a lot more ready to play in the regular season over the last two games, systemically

It does make sense to keep him the 9 games. I'm talking about trading a guy to force him in. If he comes in for 9 games and kicks ass, keep him

The thing is, I've watched him closely and I see areas that need improvement. The Flyers say they're going to be patient and work on long term development, well this kid needs it.

Some guys do develop better as pros. A lot more struggle when they're rushed.

Yep, they've been strong on the puck all game. Just need to get a little more offense. Flyers are playing a strong game defensively.

I wish he could go to the AHL to start the season, but he can't and I'm guessing the Flyers feel as though there's little left for him to learn in the Q.

Time will tell, I suppose.

That would be ideal for him, IMO.

Anyhow, beats report that Hextall denied the report.
