I believe Jones and Bellemare start the season in LHV, if only on paper, and the roster you see on CapGeek is what they go w/ until they LTIR all the absent bodies. You certainly can't get any closer than $5K if you're looking to maximize usable space.

Morin is the sole wrinkle. If they keep him, they'll have to juggle a bit, but it's still doable.

Geez. Who even centers the 4th line? With Rinaldo - White - Raffl, G better get into game shape quick enough. He'll need to play 28 minutes opening night.

Yep. No reason the #1 prospect wouldn't fall to 12th. I mean, can you imagine Patrick Stefan, Alexander "Can't Miss" Daigle, or Owen Nolan every falling that far? The hockey would be be stunned!

Man, you really hate Alexander Daigle, huh?

Reports are Morin is skating with Schultz and to expect him to be sent to juniors on Friday.

What people keep forgetting is that JVR was just as much a disappointment as Schenn was at the time. TOR needed offense. We needed defense. No way of knowing JVR would develop faster. Reason I say develop faster is because I really believe Schenn will get better and is not as bad as people make him out to be.

No he wasnt.. He was hurt.

In fact, Bill had stated this stat many times. Over his previous 78 games he had scored something like 32 goals and 30 assists. Most of that while not getting PP time and playing on the 3rd line.

He had come off of a pretty amazing performance against the B's in the prior playoffs as well.

Not sure when day 1 of the cap accounting officially begins, but they could make all those paper moves on the 8th and have Bellemare, Jones or whoever back up in time for the Boston game.

Good point. If all the beat writers are correct, Morin is going back tomorrow anyway.

OR...Hexy read my post that they should play MDZ tonight to see what he brings before making a decision on keeping Morin

Thanks. So yeah, submit the CapGeek roster on the 7th with Pronger on LTIR. Then LTIR whomever else they need to. Then bring everybody they need back up the morning of the 8th.

catching up.

I don't want to see Morin, Hagg, Ghost or even Alt rushed at all. No reason for it.

JVR/Schenn. Still liked getting Schenn. Still hate that it came at the expense of JVR. I just hate moving guys with size, skill and skating ability. just hate it.

Bobby Ryan. would have loved to see him here but 7.25 for 7 yrs? Ummmm no.

Honestly I see this as a playoff team and MAYBE one round in the playoffs if everything goes well. I rather see kids like the above mentioned dmen and the forwards like Laughton, Leier etc get big minutes in the AHL.

I think they can do it at 5:01pm, and nobody needs to actually go anywhere.

Actually, he is exactly the kind of player that they need right now on the 1st line. Not that I'm saying bring him back or don't do the trade. But I'd love for the team to get a pure goal-scoring sniper to pair with G, preferably a true winger.
- TheGreat28

Carter prefers center, though, doesn't he? Not sure he would be as effective in that left wing spot either.

you mean you can't take a natural center and play him on the wing?

Is Luke Schenn (the guy they traded for) not a huge portion of this issue? Schenn is part of the reason our defense is a problem.
- jak521

Right, but who would be in Schenn's place to improve the defense? If we still had JVR, wouldn't our defense still suck?

Signing one-dimensional scorers via free agency rarely works out, especially at those years and AAV.

Well, the bigger question is...what other moves would Holmgren have made that would put us in a bigger cap bind today?

At least Schenn is young and relatively cheap, at least compared to what FA Holmgren would have had to sign to fill the gap back then.

This one's just for you.

@DownGoesBrown: Last time - NHL season preview, part three: The Sharks, the Flyers, and six more teams that have me stumped - http://t.co/iLodIG33sZ

But of course, this is Philadelphia, so it will all come down to goaltending. That’s where things could get dicey …

Ah, the old stand-by.

- tangent_man

i refuse to read drivel. if the flyers had brodeur in his prime winning cups and vezinas they'd STILL say it's an issue. (frank) right off, mmmmkay?

Goaltending is the one thing I'm not worried about....unless Mason gets hurt. Then its panic city!

All I am saying is that, no matter how highly touted a 16/17 year old kid is, there's no proof that he will be a surefire NHL superstar. As such, trading a proven superstar/team captain for said player with 0 games of NHL experience is not wise, at least to me. Others are trying to persuade me that there is 0% chance that McDavid will not be a "generational talent."
