I'll be burning my Stephenson Flyers jersey at 3pm in the parking lot of the Coastline if anyone cares to join me.
- hereticpride

For a second, I thought you meant Wayne Stephenson.

It gets them $5,000 under the cap with only 12 healthy forwards on the roster and no cap space to recall PEB and/or Jones. That is what you are missing.

If my scenario is correct (and I freely admit that I might be wrong, this stuff is confusing) the Flyers could have 14 healthy forwards, 7 defensemen (and it doesn't matter whether it's Morin or Schultz as the 7th), 2 goalies, and $625,000 in cap space.

- Feanor

Are you assuming Morin in your numbers?

I am not. I have the roster exactly how Capgeek has it today.

Morin or Schultz doesn't matter. They are going to be well over the 69,000,000 cap either way.

That is why they sent some kids down to the Phantoms so they could carry him on the roster day 1, and then when they moved him off via LTIR they got all 4.9 million.
- TheGreat28

That is the preferable LTIR Option 1, but they aren't able to use that this season.

Is that not a problem in and of itself?

They guy completely lacks any consistency, and when he is on is A ( more like B-) game he really isnt much better than Nik Grossmann. THAT is a problem.

- jak521

He certainly has had consistency issues. But his A game, which unfortunately doesn't happen a lot, is pretty good. He can be a monster at times when he's making the right reads, and moving his feet.

This one's just for you.

@DownGoesBrown: Last time - NHL season preview, part three: The Sharks, the Flyers, and six more teams that have me stumped - http://t.co/iLodIG33sZ

But of course, this is Philadelphia, so it will all come down to goaltending. That’s where things could get dicey …

Ah, the old stand-by.

Sigh

Goaltending is the one thing I'm not worried about....unless Mason gets hurt. Then its panic city!

Actually, the problem with the current capgeek roster is neither Bellemare nor Laughton is included, so you have no 4th line center. I tried waiving White and LTIR Pronger, but that misses by 20k. So they can waive Rosehill and LTIR Pronger and go with this:

Not disagreeing that he has had times where he looks pretty good. Problem is that there have really been only a handful of those games. Its like 1 out of every 20.

Hell, even if it was 10 out of 20 where he looked like a top 4 d-man.. it would still be bad. It really is a shame, because I want him to succeed. My dream is that he ends up being a monster night in and out, but the reality is that it probably wont happen.

I just wish that if they were hell bent on moving JvR for a d-man, they did it for a more mobile 2-way guy.

I guess even the best bloggers get lazy except for Bill Meltzer.

The biggest problem is the blueline. The author tap danced all around that because ZOMG MUST TALK ABOUT FLYERZ GOALTENDERZZZZ!

That is using Option1. So in order to use Option 1, Pronger must be on the roster coming out of camp, and not on LTIR.

What people keep forgetting is that JVR was just as much a disappointment as Schenn was at the time. TOR needed offense. We needed defense. No way of knowing JVR would develop faster. Reason I say develop faster is because I really believe Schenn will get better and is not as bad as people make him out to be.

That's certainly why I've stated that there are inconsistency issues. He was pretty good down the stretch and in the playoffs last year. The bottom line is the better that Schenn plays, the more value they get out of the trade.

I believe Jones and Bellemare start the season in LHV, if only on paper, and the roster you see on CapGeek is what they go w/ until they LTIR all the absent bodies. You certainly can't get any closer than $5K if you're looking to maximize usable space.

Morin is the sole wrinkle. If they keep him, they'll have to juggle a bit, but it's still doable.

It's definitely championship by committee there, but there have been a few series in each of their last few playoff runs where Kane has carried the team on his shoulders (in terms of his production). Guy can take over games when he wants to. We've seen a glimmer of that from JVR but not nearly the same level.

Everything else he wrote was pretty accurate. He could have mentioned goaltending as a concern because the team lacks depth and because Mason has been inconsistent in the past. Using his stats in Columbus don't really prove anything though
