Well yeah Benn goes in the first or second round though in nearly every pool - I'm talking about drafting these guys in that 3-6 round. I do agree though that there are a much smaller number of elite level D but i think you can still look at nearly 15 D that will put up points to warrant a 3rd to 6th round pick. OEL, Keith, Subban, Weber, Seabrook, Byfuglien, Pietrangelo, Giordano, Chara, Doughty, Karlsson, Suter, and Letang can all be a 45-50 pt D (i'm sure i missed several as well).

I've just found lately in my pools i'm seeing D going earlier and earlier and if i dont draft some of the aforementioned D I end up with a pretty shoddy d core that leaves me wanting. In the past though i did draft like your mentioning and take a risk on D that i think could potentially hit that 40-45 pt mark and draft them late but i havent had a ton of luck with that type of guy.

All depends if you want to spend your pick on a D in those rounds, I think you have a good chance of landing a 65+ point player in the 3-6 rounds, and at most a 45-50pt D man in those rounds....of course if you are including hits/blocked shots,. PIM then I do suggest you pick a D in the earlier rounds..

I like to pick a couple D men who i think will get about 40-45 points and i find i can get them around the 8-12th rounds, when the forward player drop off is a bit more noticeable (in that range).

It's nice to have a coupld great D men i agree, as long as you are not handcuffing your forwards production by doing so.

for example: guys like Boumeester, Phaneuf, Goligoski, Barrie, etc can be picked up in the later rounds and quite possible may put up as many points/pim as guys like seabrook, pietrangelo, chara and so on...

Yah I agree on those last four although there is a fair amount of risk inherent in all four as well. I also think it just has a ton to do with the people you play with - if they value D you're handcuffed into taking at least some early becasue even guys like Goli & Barrie go earlier then expected.

One of my league has hits & blocks which does change things significantly. I ended up with Giordano, Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo, Trouba, and Zidlicky so I'm happy but i had to use a fair number of mid round picks on them. It's also a keeper league though and very few people kept D so that also changes things.

Yep, you have to pay to get good D men throughout like that. I like to play the risky D game and ensure I have a ton of firepower upfront and at least 1 quality goaltender to rely on.

I find if i really need to improve my D i have no problem making a trade for one as some guys will use too many high picks on goalies and defense and are losing the goals, assists, points, +-, PPP,SHP,GWG stats and need to make up lost ground.

to be honest, I always am able to find 1 D man on the wire a few weeks in that sticks the whole season and produces well...just have to be on the ball!

I felt more confident in drafting D early considering my keepers are Crosby, Giroux, and Benn with Rask and Price in net. Dont ask me how i got those 5 - it was not easy haha.

Wow!

Benn is a second round gem and both sid and claude are two of my favorite players. you have also 2/5 of the best fantasy goalies

I fully understand you picking D where you did with a the quality firepower you have upfront!!

I'd say so, once the season gets underway il do my best to help with free agents and or breakout players as it unfolds.

I've only done fantasy football drafts in-person with buddies, those drafts are way more fun.

I do em all. NHL, MLB and NFL!

Pools are awesome....do Fanduel and Draftking and am up slightly in both.

Like your strategies....In my personal experience I would argue it is ESSENTIAL to grab a top goalie in round 1 or 2....and if you wait until round 3 you better grab another in 4 or 5. I play 12 team, 2 goalie leagues and I find I am always near the top if I go 2 goalies and 3 top forwards in the first 5 rounds.

Now, if karlsson or Keith fell to me a good value you betcha I would take them. But otherwise, I wait until mid rounds to start filling out my D-men.

And usually several OK D-men available on FA or waiver as season progresses, but a top notch goalie or point a game forward almost unheard of,.

Good luck guys.....can't wait for the start!

Yeah a lot depends on when the other people in your pool are drafting goalies, and of course the number of people in your pool. You want a good goalie on a good team on your roster, at least one - if you can land one of them in the 9-12th round of picks thats huge, absolutely....it sounds very hard to get a goalie near the end or off free agency, but it will happen...injury's plague a team at one time or another.

Keumper
Allen
Gibson/Anderson
Luongo (this season may slide to the later rounds)

And he doesn't need to predict the future. Just do better than most, most of the time. Or, more simply......win $$$. lol

I admit, i dont win every pool, but I usually place top 3.

quite often I am at the top in the regular season and for some reason my team will decide to not show up come playoff finals, it happens, thats why its Fantasy.

Have fun with it, cheer your team and your fantasy team(s) on and talk some smack with your buddy's thats what its all about...enjoy it, and of course try to take home some cake

That's like me last year. Kane, Staal, and Zetterberg injured during my playoffs. No add/drops allowed. My team was toast

yeah its terrible, i lost stammer early, but i was able to make some moves through FA and trades that kept me jacked up front.

stammer wasnt the same when he came back, kessel went ice cold for me (as did most leafs), toews and saad were already in the playoffs (our playoffs were last 3 weeks of the season), and if im not mistaken luongo got hurt and fleury was my other tender, i cant remember if he was hurt too or what, but basically my core + goalies were out - which essentially led to my downfall.

poop happens!
