The mistake you're making is that I don't necessarily think the "fourth" line should play more. I think that a team should try to have balanced lines, to give the coach as many options as possible. Having four balanced and capable lines makes the team better at 5 on 5.

- Jsaquella

It's not a mistake on my part. You've stated umpteen times you want the 4th line to play more. And that you would have it as a 3A and 3B. And that if a player like Umberger was placed on the so call "4th" line, he would get plenty of icetime. Contradicting yourself here.

It only stands to reason if you have four good lines, a smart coach would recognize that he has more flexibility. There's no line that needs to be sheltered, or that has to be specifically avoided in terms of D zone starts or other matchup situations. As for playing guys with good players, none of the lines I've suggested has anyone playing with a player with limited talent, as would happen with some teams 4th lines.

- Jsaquella

I agree, I want a 4th line that can be used late in games more often instead of shortening the bench. Umberger is more valuable on a higher line with more talented players in my view.

I'm not suggesting Lecavalier center Rosehill or Rinaldo, or anything close. As far aa line numbers, I'm not the one suggesting that playing a certain player on a 4th line is a bad idea, no matter of the skill level on that line. I've suggested playing Lecavalier with Raffl, Akeson and Umberger. I've suggested using Umberger with Laughton & Bellemare. Not sure how that translates to lesser quality players.

- Jsaquella

Umberger, who can score, playing with Laughton, and Bellemare, two NHL rookies, versus playing with Lecavalier, a proven NHL offensive scorer, is certainly playing with lesser quality players.

I understand my view is not the likely reality of what the team will do. It was a discussion of two posters views in what they would choose to use as lines. Don't want to deal with hypotheticals? Then stay out of the conversation. Want to deal with hypotheticals? Then don't mention "the likely reality" when people are discussing them & what they'd do differently

- Jsaquella

The reality of what is likely to happen, is and should be part of the conversation. Otherwise, you're just playing fantasy Hockey.

As usual, you've mischaracterized what I've said. I want a "fourth" line who is capable of playing a bigger role. Obviously, if such a 4th line existed, an intelligent coach would play it more frequently than a limited fourth line full of goons and spare parts.

In terms of lesser or better players, Lecavalier is a big name, coming off a bad season. If he can rebound, he might be better than Laughton or Bellemare. Unfortunately, we don't know for sure if he will rebound. I also suggested a line with Lecavalier and Umberger, which you ignored or failed to notice.

Anyhow, back to radio silence. It's not worth it to have you continuously mischaracterize what I post, or take off handed comments as if they were meant literally and start some kind of long running nonsensical flame session.

I expected the kind of response you gave, and sadly you lived right up to expectations.

I didn't mis-characterize anything you said. It's on record, and you've stated it many times. It's why you don't want player like Rinaldo in the lineup, because you want players who can play more then 6 minutes to paraphrase.

Lecavalier is far more then a big name. He's a player that has been a quality player and scorer his entire career, who had a significant injury last year.
