Very few team broadcasts exhibit 100% neutrality between the home team and the opposition.

Bill Clement has turned quite homerish now that he is a fully employed by CSN Philadelphia. Having said that though, I do think Michelletti got a touch too jolly in his ripping of Stortini.

Stortini never struck me as an especially dirty player in his days with the Oilers.

Ideally, the broadcasters should not be so unprofessional when it comes to criticizing the players. I prefer when the broadcasters leave the analysis to the analysts and just call the game as it happens. That's why I like Doc.

Agreed, I also really like Dave Strader. He and Doc are my favorites.

EDIT: Not sure why Kenny Albert got so much time during this past playoffs. Not a huge fan of him.

I think Keith Jones is pretty unbiased and Bundy will call out anyone even if it's his own team. It should help balance the scale a bit more than Coatesy ever did.

He acted like Tanner Glass was some top line player who shouldn't mix things up with a plug. Tanner Glass isn't a good player. He's on the ice to fight people and play 5 minutes per night.
- PhillySportsGuy

Agreed, Glass is not much better than Stortini and Michelletti was a touch too critical of Stortini dropping the gloves with a willing fight partner.

It's ok if they are a little bias. I just don't like when they whine for calls. Obviously they should be excited when the Flyers do well since that's who they work for. I do like Jones and Therien for the reasons you mentioned though. They stay relatively neutral.

Yeah, it always seemed like Coatsey would attempt to remain unbiased and find something solid to offer up about the opposing team, but it was never really convincing to me

The broadcast team in Dallas is probably my league favorite, nationally or locally. They are continually neutral and entertaining year in and year out.

Emrick loves the game and it's conveyed in the crazy excitement he gets no matter which team scores, makes a big play or wins the contest he worked on.

Even in his Devil and Flyer days he never gave off the impression he was rooting for the home team despite likely doing so deep down.

Love the idea of having a more skilled fourth line. If Akeson can play a better 2-way game, a line of Akeson, Bellemare, and Rinaldo could be effective. I really hope it happens.

I also like the broadcast team for the Preds. Those guys are classy and seem to just be having a good time every game, regardless of how poor the Preds are doing.

not only that, look at the replay...while stortini certainly doesnt shy away, glass does just as much jawing to make the fight happen. micheletti is a clown.

I found it quite annoying that on a national (cable) broadcast, they couldn't find a more neutral crew. It's bad enough that we had to listen to that pairing in the playoffs last year on NBC. It reminded me of having to listen to Gary Throrne's one-sided commentary during the many Flyers/Devils playoff games of yore.

That said, I have always liked Sam Rosen. He delivers his call with class and objectivity, in my opinion.

Ice girls back in Philly! Somewhere Carter and Richards (Frick and Frack) are jealously cursing under their breathe.

Seriously, is there an active NHL analyst better than him?

He knows his stuff without being painfully boring in his breakdowns. The verbiage he uses is fresh and he works well with his play by play partner.

Emrick annoys the piss out of me. Sure he has a grasp of some of the more obscure words in the English language....but it seems he goes out of his way to find as many colorful words as possible to describe play. Enough already.

Yea, it's pretty hard to defend the way he trashed Stortini in that scenario.

Agreed!

EDIT - I also think Doc is good for bringing newer fans to the sport. I think he dumbs it down just enough for more casual fans, while still making it exciting

Agreed, the way Michelletti was carrying on, you'd have thought that Stortini was fighting Girardi or St. Louis.

Rosen has always been a pro. Michelletti is smart and knows the game but tends to show his colors on multiple occasions.

I always go out of my way to watch games on CBC or Rogers Sports Net. Those Canadian broadcasters know how to call a game.

Was Jim Jackson always as bias as he is now? Or am I now just old enough to realize it? This is something that I've been thinking about. Anybody want to help me out??

I listen to the games on mute in a dark room because of the broadcasters
