Coburn was awful in Monday's game and hasn't had a good preseason in general. He's been fine at practice, though, and played fine last night paired with Morin. The pairing with MacDonald has yet to really click in a game.

Berube publicly laced into the veterans as a whole after Sunday and Monday, and also threw down the gauntlet after the morning skate yesterday. His voice wasn't raised. He was calm. Even so, the message was clear.

See, the scary part is that I hadn't seen Coburn in a game until last night, but admittedly against the Rangers' B-Listers, he looked fine with Sam Morin.

I'll just say it: Morin's not ready. There's rawness in his game, and he should go back. And also, Coburn is responsible for his own level of play and, as a fan of his, it's not a great feeling to hear that he's been so far below the bar.

That being said, IF Morin does stick around AND he does beat somebody out based on merit, play that kid and don't look back. Because we all get it: He's only going to make the roster if he's better than some of the other guys, and at some point, if too many of them are simply below the bar, you can't punish the kid just because he's 19.

That's what I have said about Scott Laughton: I think he's best served by going to the AHL, UNLESS he flat-out wins a job. Don't just give it to him. And I feel the same about Morin -- if he straight-up wins it, (frank) it and play him.

Chris Pronger was traded because Anaheim already had a future HOF defender on their team and wanted to bolster their blue line, forward corps, plus add a few first rounders.

I talk about how I'd like Bobby Ryan because I think he'd be a nice compliment to Giroux but I'd never sacrifice Simmonds, Read, Voracek, Schenn or Couturier for him. All of which are young solid players at reasonable cost.

Basically, I'm applying the Hinkie principle to the Flyers. The Flyers situation wasn't as bad, so I'm not saying a dump everyone, tank and rebuild. But more - how do we get all of the talent to peak at the right time? And trading one superstar, while risky, is simply a 3-4 year strategy instead of a 1-2 year strategy.
