why do we still have Ryan Potulny, or, better yet, who is Ryan Potulny?
- jimbro83

He owns a Ford expidition, they are keeping him around for the last cut for carpooling reasons.

Yep, the seventh defensemen fight is down to McIlrath, Kostka, Kampfer and Hunwick.

My money is on Hunwick making it.

Here's a thought: we need to clear a contract for Duclair. No team is going to take Malone or Lombardi off our hands. But if McIlrath continues to play well, maybe we move Klein and let the Undertaker take his spot? Klein is an attractive asset and his cap hit is a little steep for us to be playing on the 3rd pairing.

they aren't going to move a regular player to clear a contract for Duclair, it's not necessary. They could rid themselves of one of the Bourque's, one of the forwards who has a contract destined for the ECHL, it's not going to be an impact player they get rid of

I don't think McIlrath is ready to play all season long. Plus a third pair of McIlrath and Moore is downright frightening.

Dont know if I would be thrilled with a McIlrath-Moore-Hunwick 3rd pairing. I get what your saying, but I believe the Klein signing last year really balanced and settled the defense. As much as AV loves the speed offense game, the defensive core we had when Klein was signed was a big part of turning the team around. Remember how bad the defense was before Klein last year. People out of position, trying to find the right partners.

Are we really going to see Duclair make this team?

This kid scores and plays well, in the remaining preseason games, it will be downright impossible to send him back to junior.

I think so, I actually think that he'll get more out of being around Martin St. Louis all year long then he will spending another year in the QMJHL

Just a thought. I think they would have a pretty easy time trying to move Klein...don't think anyone will take any of our forwards' contracts that are destined for the ECHL. Bourque might not clear waivers which would solve the issue, but if he doesn't, I don't see any other team willing to trade for a guy like Kristo.

Agreed on that but where does he go?

The top two line wings are all set: Nash, MSL, Kreider and Zuccarello.

The third line wings will likely be Hagelin and Fast, respectively. If Duclair makes the team it knocks Hagelin to the fourth line, essentially demotes Malone to Hartford and makes Glass a healthy scratch virtually all season.

When this lineup is fully healthy, we can viably see this:

Kreider-Stepan-MSL

Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello

Duclair-Miller-Fast

Hagelin-Moore-Stempniak

That actually is pretty friggen impressive.

I do agree that Klein really balanced out the lines. He's as reliable as anyone else on our defense.

No sense in moving Klein though; that third pair is a potential dumpster fire without him anchoring it.

to cut to the finish ...our opening nite lineup should have NONE of the prospects we are in love with..Hayes -Haggerty-Duclair-FAst-Oscar- None
if u check your roster we have 14-15 signed guys to main club ,only JT is our lone rook ? if u want to call him that
my projected lineup
Brass-Zucc-Krieds
J T * -MSL -NAsh
Moore Hags -stepniak
4th line has some rotation Glass Lombardi Malone (PP+) swede lg center ?

Defense & goal give us such control /advantage

why rush what is not needed , we should try this & when Steps comes back evaluate & have a review and work the hot hands & re work lines if necessary

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
MSL - Miller - Duclair
Hagelin - Brassard - Zuccarello
Malone - Moore - Stempniak/Glass

Brassard and Zuccarello as the "3rd line" again.

I really don't think Sather will have trouble making a non impact contract magically disappear. Not even concerned about it

Well the only sense I can come up with is that it might be the only way to clear a contract for Duclair for this year. Obviously that's assuming no team will trade for 1 of our other prospects or a guy like Lombardi.

Maybe Stempniak could be solid trade bait and more expendable due to our plethora of wingers? Not sure what the rule is on trading players that you signed just this summer though...I'd imagine we can't move any recent free agent signing for a while?

Isn't Duclair a left wing though?

Don't discount Fast, he has looked really strong here and seems ready to make that full time jump to being a pro.

Boston is having trouble moving Chris Kelly, a solid role player on any team, for any pick possible. I don't think it will be as easy as we think to rid ourselves of a contract.

Not sure, even better if he is because MSL is a RW I believe?

I like Fast but outside of Malone or Stempniak I'm not sure he will make the squad just yet. Definitely a quick callup when injuries strike though.

Boston is in worse cap shape than the Rangers. Plus Kelly is not as essential as Klein is this season.

Fast has given the coaches zero reason to send him down over a veteran. Malone, although looked good in his one game, is still far from a lock to make this team.

Too many kids are showing well in camp; Malone has to come back and play really well in these last two preseason games in order to win a spot.
