Allen hasn't shown me much this preseason. Out of the fringe defensemen I think Hunwick has looked the most steady.

Kostka, Kampfer, Allen and McIlrath haven't done anything to separate themselves and grab that seventh spot.

- MidnightMarauder

I thought has looked the best out of the 4, he played really well in Chicago

Or trade Brassard for Thornton because cap space isn't just the 1st obstacle other than the fact it's just really stupid proposal
- HankdaTank

But brassards cap hit for this year is $7M

I know it was a joke, and mine was meant to be very tongue-in-cheek. I know you're a good dude, and the comment that was a "Typical Flyers fan" was meant the same way, but a poster from here (not naming names) trolled in to start some poop. Definitely don't think any less of you.

I mean, any less of you than I do every Rags fan

Hunwick isnt the worst, he was a bit of a whiping boy at the end of his Avs tender but he was a real pro apparently handling being sent down/healthy scratched.

I usually credit that to younger players playing more "timid and respectful" when they finally get their call up to play with Vets.

Default to Pass instead of shoot so they dont look like a selfish player, looking to make the smart nifty play instead of driving that puck towards the net. The more confidence a young guy like Hayes gets he might start thinking shoot first.

- DDM-Coga

Yea that is true. Although it hasn't stopped Duclair at all haha

I think that's most fans at most games.

It is, and that's really sad. Those people, I think, are football fans masquerading as hockey fans.

On a serious note, the Rangers may want to consider giving the Panthers a call about Vince Trochek. I am bias because of how much I've seen of him, but I love him as a player, he plays center, and he might be the odd man out down there to make that roster, because of their ridicolous depth of young impact players at center. He wouldn't necessarily come cheap, however. It would take a pretty good prospect.

I will say that a lot of fans from other teams are asking the latter part of your post. The NHL is definitely taking notice of this kid.

The way I see it is a talent like Reinhart or Ekblad is expected to play in the NHL right away. These guys played on the top lines for Canada at the WJC development camps. Duclair also played top line next to Reinhart and is a year older. So Duclair should have just as much of a chance to play in the NHL this year as they do considering he's talented enough to play top line for Canada and is a year older.

- RAGSareDANGERus

Even Duclair is noticing. In his postgame interview he said something like "yea I have started to notice i am getting kind of famous fast"

He definitely is going to cost you. Good prospect, but you're gonna overpay for him at this point in the season/his career.

The worst experience I ever had was sitting next to someone who didnt understand why the blue lines exist, and couldn't master the complicated theory of offsides.

"That guy's open, why doesnt he just skate down to the goalie and wait for a pass?"

I am anti-duclair right now bc of Friedman 30 thoughts...that little jab at why didnt the Avs take him in the 3rd round bc of Roy Remparts history. Haha

During the Flyers broadcast last night they mentioned how Duclar and Roy used to go at it a bit in juniors? To the point where Roy almost suspended him or something for a bit? I was curious about that story. Maybe why Colorado passed?

Haha, that's fantastic. You know, the most knowledgeable hockey fans per capita I've met so far are Blue Jackets, Predators, and Hurricanes fans. It's probably because only real hockey fans care about them to any degree, so it may be biased. Capitals fans are by far the dumbest.

It would have to be a need for need type trade. The Rangers can use a center. The Panthers can use a winger. Maybe a trade of equivalent prospects, although its probably just better for the Rangers to weather the early season storm until Stepan gets back. I've just always wanted Trochek -- one of my favorite players in juniors.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same exact thing.

And Hagelin on the 4th, just seems a waste. Thats why I would love Duclair to be here, but how does he fit.

- mdw7413

This is why, at the end of the day, I don't see Duclair being here this season.

I have no idea, it just was a weird comment by Friedman. The flavour of the month has been to second guess any of the Avs offseason moves lately, thought Friedman was better than that, but hes still my favorite.

God is he going to stuck on Sportsnet, that panel is terrible, watching hockey in canada is going to be painful this season

I'll be completely ok with with him being the seventh defenseman; spell John Moore when his game is hitting the skids a bit.

He needs to keep a level head here. Has to stay focused because there is still a good chance he gets sent back to juniors and he needs to not let that get to him.

Future looks extremely bright for Duclair regardless of what happens this time around.

It actually is. I'd enjoy the Calgary/Edmonton boards a lot if it wasn't a constant homophobic flame war in there. The Habs blog steam rolls out of control about halfway down Page 2. The Penguins blog is alright, although there's a lot of smug in there. Bill Meltzer is probably the best writer on the site (no offense, Jan) and the Flyers posters, in general, are level-headed on here. I've found this blog to be pretty good in general, as well. Except for one poster, can't remember his name, dude's always flaming the Islanders threads.

Yeah, never thought of it that way, but definitely makes sense. Your'e not going to get the kind of geniuses we see at the big market teams as the smaller market.

As for the Capitals, whichever political party is in power is probably the majority of the fans for those 4-8 years. So that makes sense.

He still had that end to end speed factor to him, every once in a while he decides to bust out his best Bobby Orr and creates some offensive chances bc of it.

3/4 of the times he gets tied up in the netural zone or stripped of the puck but when it does work, you love the guy

I would be concerned about how it would look for the Rangers to sign a young kid as a free agent, and then immediately trade him. I think that would have an adverse effect on their ability to make those type of signings in the future.

And, to he honest, I haven't seen much of Hayes, and I've seen a ton of Trochek live, so I think my opinion on that one would be a little slanted. They are different players. Trochek is a smallish forward, and Hayes is obviously a hoss. Trochek reminds me a great deal of Derek Stepan -- real, real smart and solid in every aspect of the game, but doesn't necessarily have elite measurables in any one particular area. That would be a tough call for me, putting aside the concern raised above.
