The one thing that angers me about Murray is that he always gives early extensions to guys that don't deserve them...

Case in point: Boroweki, Phillips, Anderson and Greening when these guys had little to no leverage in negotiations and were gifted with fat contracts that if the Sens had been a little more patient with most likely would not have those burdens on the payroll. Then also signed guys who he should have walked away from Neil, Gryba, Michalek and Phillips (I know he's there twice but it's so bad that I decided to mention him twice).

What also bothers me is that he hasn't done that with our skilled players. This summer he could have extended Zibanejad, Stone and who know what happens with Ryan and Methot!

I'd have liked Zibby to have the same contract as Turris, imagine him locked up at 6 years at $3.5M and Stone at 3 years at $1.5M! If (and I hope they do) have big seasons then Zibby may ask for $4.5 and Stone around $3M.
Murray has done a lot for this organization but lately I think he's lost a lot of his mojo. I think he needs to retire gracefully.

Yeah but in the process he signed Karlsson at 6.5M... compare that to the likes of Subban ( a lesser player IMO) that covers for all the mistakes hes made elsewhere. Also Turris' contract is another one that is considered the best bang for your buck. You need to understand how he also works with almost no budget and still comes up with a team that can compete every night. Look at Oilers, Flames, Jets... it could be worst. He defenitely knows a lot more about the sport than you make it appear. Just wait and watch... that's the beauty of hockey it can really go any way.

Looks like Coach has Stone on that 1st or 2nd line - he could put up 40+ points this season? 20 goals 20 Assists with PP time

I'm not trying to be anti-Stone with this question, but is that really true? It seems to me that Zibanejad-Chiasson have been playing together quite a bit, and that would seem to imply Turris-Ryan as the other scoring line C-RW combination, with MacArthur and Michalek rounding out the left side as natural LW.

I realize that Stone has actually been playing a lot of minutes in the pre-season - but am I wrong that it's largely been as a RW beside Zack Smith? If so, does that necessarily translate into scoring line minutes when everyone on the roster is healthy?

Unfortunately, PM may be doing that to see if he can spark some offense from Smith. I'd have him play bottom 6 with the knowledge that he could bounce up onto either of the top lines in case of injury.

I liked a couple of the line combinations earlier, but I've never been a 9MM fan, and would be perfectly fine with him playing a third line role. I also think Puempel may be one of the purest goal scorers in the system, and needs to try a second line role.

I'd be interested to see:

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Puempel - Zibanejad - Chiasson
Michalek - Legwand - Stone
Smith - Pageau - Condra
Neil, Greening

Cowen - Karlsson
Methot - Ceci
Wiercioch - Gryba (I know this isn't ideal, but maybe they'll be able to handle it?)

who knows with maclean he shuffles the deck constantly but Stone is one of our better all around offensive players - he can pass and score from in tight and the coahc loves him, he's big so I think he's a guy they move throughout the lineup to get people going

im guessing that the start of the season lines 2 and 3 might get similar ice time, esp if talent is spread out. so, stone could get lots of scoring opportunities on a third line, if thats where he ends up (as long as he doesnt get plugged with neil and/or greening). conversely, if stone plays on line 1 or 2, these two lines could easily be more like a 1a 1b.. esp if ryan plays with zibs.

i'd love us to roll 4 lines that can play 200f and can score. not sure if that will happen though, but u never know.

id be happy if stone pots 20g. i think he can get 25.

I think you're being a little hard on Puemple. He isn't the 2-way forward every here seems to get a hard on for. He's a goal scorer. It's all he has ever been and all he will ever be. If he isn't scoring points, he doesn't have much use to the team. However, he has the tools to be able to contribute offence on a regular basis. The guy is only 21.

He is taking a little longer to develop than people would like, but I think he can definitely be a high call-up candidate this season and close to a lock for a roster spot next season.

Defensive defensmen don't get thrown under the bus for being awful at offence, why offensive forwards get thrown under the bus for not being great a defence?
