Sad thing is I believe Bogosian went right before Isles pick but Eric Karlsson & Tyler Myers were still left...
- Ur Not Me

Bogosian went 3rd overall after Stammer and Doughty.

Then Pietrangelo.

Schenn, Filatov, Wilson, Boedker, Bailey.

Myers 12 and Karlsson 15.

Can't fault Snow for not taking Myers and Karlsson. Plenty of other GM's passed also. That's not an Isles-specific problem, the draft is a crapshoot. It was a pretty bad year in terms of talent.

It pietrangelo that went bfr and bogosian bfr him. Just looked it up. A shame we couldn't have gotten pietrangelo. We would probably have a completely different out look going into this season.

It's definitely a possibility. But we also likely would have started playing him the following season, a la Bailey. That may have ruined him, also like Bailey. The Blues let him play another two Jr. seasons, so who knows.

It is a bit of a crap shoot with weighed odds depending on scouting. It was interesting how he was all in for pietrangelo (from what was reported) and shifted gears to a forward in bailey. I guess he didnt like what he saw in karrlson and myers? I remember myers being billed as a big project (figuratively and literally) but karrlson projecting to what he is today which is something snow seems to covet. Puck moving defensemen.

I get it but usually a rebuild in motion starts from the net-out unless there is a franchise player available to draft. Snow had no team and no prospects and thought his best player at that time is/was DP. So like most have said, since the best possible Dmen went before, should of still picked a Dmen even if it didn't work out. But that's my opinion.

I heard Reinhart looked very calm and good defensively last night. Can anyone confirm?

That draft year of Bailey is when Snow screwed up or confused me. That was the year of defensemen and Snow was trying to move up a grab 1. So since he was not able to, he did something smart by trading down and accumulate more picks, but still there were defensemen left to choose from and decided on Bailey. Well that's long ago and we are stuck w/a $3M dud......

He looked good. I dont know if he looked better due to the rest of the blue line which to me was crap save for Brennan who looked pretty good to me. He didnt look nervous or out of place. Hickey was completely out muscled far too many times and Donovan was flat out terrible. We wont be seeing him to start the season.

You're blinded by Bailey love...he was terrible. Poulin bailed him out when he skated the wrong way with the puck into his own zone and, with no one behind him, gently passed the puck to a Bruin. In the neutral zone and along the boards he just skated by the play if it was too much work to get involved. And on offense it was the same story...passing on no fewer than two occasions when there was a clear shot...once into a completely open net (Strome, who you think had a bad game, threaded the beautiful pass to him on that play, and did show up on the score sheet).

Funny. I've been having a debate with some guy who claims I'm biased for Strome over Bailey and I'm not giving Bailey a fair shot. WOW.
Best parts of his argument
1. Bailey should be given more chances because he's sacrificed for the team by changing his position
2. Bailey should be on the top line because against the Pens in the playoffs he 'produced' (3 assists in 6 games)
3. Should be given more time because he's younger than Okposo.
sheesh

I don't agree. A re-build, or any draft for that matter, should start with the best player available. You don't draft for need.

When a draft is a crapshoot of prospects that have similar rankings and a team of nothing, to me u draft on need but I do get and understand draft the best possible player. But that year is what I base my opinion on (not today). Now that prospects today are more of a given in comparison to years prior is where I'll tend to draft the best possible player.

So I felt that year only Snow should have gone need but in reality, everything was a need....

Sadly, he is entitled to a roster spot. With that contract you pretty much have to slot him into the lineup. Why we wasted our second compliance buyout on Kabanov's minimal contract is still beyond me...
- eichiefs9

Bailey is not "entitled" to anything. You earn entitlements. Bailey hasnt done that. Bailey is still an islander only because garth gave him a 5 year deal and theres 4 years left on the deal.

I shouldn't have said "entitled", implying he earned anything. But we all know he has a guaranteed spot on that roster, regardless of merit.

its not a money issue...they could trade bailey and wouldnt have to pay him anything. it seems more like upper management believes bailey still has something to prove and the offers are all lowballs.

as for the game, im surprised there wasnt more uproar about macquad chopping at JTs ankle at the end of the game.

and just to add my name to the group...donovan looked horrebdous
