Bullsh!t. The League works for the team. If they see something funny they should notify. Do you not think the union does that for the agents?
- Jeropotato

It's not the league's problem to know whether Edmonton is giving him a tryout based on trying to sign him or based on considering drafting him next summer.

I'm not seeing where they establish the minimum games for the "played hockey in North America" clause. Guessing that's the gray area that tripped up Edmonton management, and unless there is something I'm missing, seems like Edmonton might have an argument.

I'm not even going to try and understand the lawyer talk.

I think it's this part.

(iv) The words "eligible for claim in the last Entry Draft" in subparagraph (b) above mean "eligible for claim in all rounds of the last Entry Draft." The words "the prior season" in subparagraph (i), (ii) and (iii) above mean "a full season prior to the last Entry Draft."

I get what your saying. I just can't imagine that nobody at the league knew that Edmonton intended on signing him, knew they couldn't and said nothing. The difference I guess is between "should and could".
Plus I'm pissed off so there is a bit of sour grapes, blame, etc. Oh well, nothing really lost or gained, I suppose. At least we didn't risk multiple 1st round picks like that Jabroni Jay Feaster.

The league is there to monitor the Gms and the teams to enforce rules the union is in place to make sure players get the best deals from the leagues..
- Yeti1181

You are 100% incorrect on the Leagues obligation to the owners. Just saying.

Really? Why does stuff like the Kovalchuk thing keep happening? Is that the league fault too?

Yeah, you're right. And all this is assuming they signed him to a professional tryout before the Major Junior season started, which was over a week before Oilers started camp.

Oilers announced that Vladimir Tkachev's contract was rejected by the NHL. Issue is he is still draft eligible next June.

Nice attempt at cheating Oilers....

No, that was slightly different. There is no circumvention of the CBA happening here.

That sucks and I think the league really should of said something when the pto was signed, I can only imagine the level of stupidity that trolls are going to try and bring from this. Hey Yeti, you should implement a 24 hour window in which any fan of another team being a douchebag about this should get banned for 5 years.

I thought they did, but I can't remember the exact date. Anyway, I have calmed down, he wasn't going to make the team anyway, and like I said, no real harm done anyway.

Trying to sign and ineligible player isn't going around the CBA?

How? Did they just forget everything in their past? Including Sergei Tolchinsky signing with Carolina after being undrafted...

How did the league allow the PTO go through? That's the part I don't get. How can the PTO be valid if they aren't allowed to sign him to an ELC at it's conclusion? Explain that to me.

I would rather you, a mildly respected prospect follower, explain it to me than that G-Damned Bartender.

I don't belive PTO get viewed by the league as they aren't full contracts within the cba.

That is the issue I have with it too, if he can't be signed then so be it, that's the rule but to allow the PTO to happen anyways is just retarded.
