I still think Rinaldo and Bellemare are on the 4th line, and Laughton and Leier start the year with the Phantoms.

Hextall needs to ask himself two questions. First, would having Leier and Laughton on the big club substantially affect their playoff chances this year? I do agree with having a great 4th line that can provide balance in ice time and contribute offensively/defensively.

But honestly, do you see them challenging for 1st or 2nd in Metro this year? I think they're a borderline playoff team myself. And I don't see Laughton and Leier substantially changing that.

So, if having them on the Flyers will only marginally affect their record this year, what is the best option for the player's long-term futures? I still think they're better served with a bigger role in the A . And the Phantoms would be much more competitive with Laughton and Leier. This in turn helps Hagg, Stolarz and Ghost along with the other prospects on the Phantoms.

If everything breaks right I think they could lock up a top 3 spot in the division.

Of course, if a couple things break wrong, they could be a lottery team.

Neither outcome would surprise me

That's how I see it, but I think Leier starts in the AHL and Rinaldo starts. Just how it is.
- jmatchett383

Sadly I agree that Rinaldo will be on a line. Id much rather he be a 13th or 14th forward if they intend to keep him in the NHL. Id much prefer him in a limited role.

OK, three good scenes.

It was a terrible movie plagued by some funny scenes

- Jsaquella

Agreed. My favorite View Askew movie is still Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, though Dogma is close.

It really was. The ending was absurd too.

I'll go with that. My concern is that 3 or 4 other teams upgraded personnel, and we're more or less counting on players substantially improving.

But given this, what would you do with Laughton and Leier if you were Hexy?

The first clerks hit me, because I was the same age, same situation as Dante and Randall.

The other moves have been funny, but not as deep feeling and smart as Clerks. Dogma is my favorite Smith movie.

Don't worry, I'm sure Clerks 3 will be much, much better.

I did like Jay doing the Buffalo Bill scene from Silence of The Lambs, too. But the rest of it was pretty bad.

- Jsaquella

I'm a big Kevin Smith fan and I have no idea what he'd have left for Jay and Silent Bob to say now that he's 44 years old. He needs to let it go.

Yep. I think the Flyers more or less tread water. They are similar to what they were last season. Others got better on paper. Although stuff like CBJ's battle with Johansen and the Jenner injury open the door.

I'd keep Laughton and send Leier to the AHL right now. I'd either have Rinaldo or Rosehill as the 13th forward and send the other down. My bottom six would be Umberger, Laughton and Bellemare, with Raffl & Akeson playing with Vinny.

that was the single only almost good scene in that awful movie
- -davies-

No way. The scene where the Eye of Sauron opens up in Dol Gulder and the pupil is in the shape of Sauron...that was pretty cool. And the entire scene with the spiders.

But yeah, 80% of that movie didn't need to exist.

I was finishing high school, playing dek hockey and working at a grocery store. Wasn't sure if I'd be able to afford college and not sure what I wanted to do.

Its an interesting 4th line for sure. But I think Raffl has earned a spot in the top 9. Akeson, not so much.
- MBFlyerfan

Raffl's too good to be on the 4th line. E.g. his play to set up BSchenn for a tap in last night (that Schenn missed).

Not sure I see that though. Not sure they'd have Vinnie on the 4th this early. I think they give him every chance to succeed, if only to trade him later. And not sure Umberger is on the 4th either.

I think tonight's lineup is close to the opening lineup. If Laughton makes it, Akeson or Bellemare doesn't.

Just my opinion.

Don't forget the Horton debacle. Imagine this board if Homer had signed him instead of Vinny.

aside from morn's post-whistle penalty and getting caught with ghost behind the net on the last ranger tally, can you specify his other "noticeable mistakes"?

Kevin Smith movies, ranked:

1.) Dogma
2.) Clerks
3.) Chasing Amy
4.) Mallrats (I realize this is blasphemy to some...)
5.) Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (only really funny if you saw his other movies)
6.) Jersey Girl (not a typo...I kinda liked it. Don't judge me.)
7.) Clerks 2 (Eh. This movie probably should never have happened.)
8.) Red State (was this supposed to be scary? Meh)

Clerks was definitely the most clever of the movies. Very raw, had a great feel to it. Dogma is probably the best "commercial" movie that he did. Clerks II went for the cheap laugh, and succeeded.

I wouldn't have a 4th line. I'd have a 3a and 3b. They'd play almost the exact same minutes, on would be slightly more offensive and the other would be more defense leaning.

I know what Berube will do. He'll have Rinaldo or Rosehill dressed every night, or both, and I'll wonder why they need an enforcer and pest.

Not winning any 1-on-1 board battles all preseason long is a pretty big one. He hasn't gotten caught of position in general, though, which is nice.

Edit: Talking about Ghost. If it's Morin, he HAS been caught out of position several times this preseason, and has had some trouble with his decision making in the offensive zone.

It's about Dante & Randall. Jay and Silent Bob never have that much to give other than comedic interludes.

Jason Mewes needs to keep busy.
