Truth be told, I turned the game off with about 5 to go in the first and just kinda jumped back for a minute or so from time time. So while I can't comment onthe whole game, the first 10 minutes were atrocious. The defense was bad, the forwards had nothing going, and Mason wasn't great (that first goal has to be stopped).

Ghost continues to show why, as much as I like him, he needs AHL seasoning. He had a very good game offensively, but he still has trouble in board battles, and he can get careless with the puck. One sequence in particular stood out, where he had the puck near the blueline in his own zone, and didn't bear down. The puck slipped off his stick right to a Ranger in the neutral zone, who sprung his forward. Luckily, the play was offside, otherwise it would be a breakaway. Those are the growing pains we'll see from him.

Morin looked okay. His reach lets him cover up for some positional mistakes, and with a little bit more upper-body strength, he'll have an unbeatable advantage in board battles due to the torque he can put on his stick.

Laughton looked better than the rest of the forwards, but that's not saying much. He seemed to have some jump in his game, and was at least hustling out there.

Coburn and AMac has largely unforgettable nights, for the wrong reason(s).

Coburn made a nice play to stop a 2-on-1, but that's about it.

That's about it. There is no good answer at the moment.

Right now I'm not worried about Coburn and AMac. Yeah they stunk last night. But they looked like they were just trying not to get hurt. I think that once the season truly gets started they'll ramp up. Is that the right attitude? Who knows. It's my opinion and I won't freak out just yet.

I'll be sad when Ghost gets sent down. Like everyone else I find he's a lot of fun to watch but I'll contain my excitement and look forward to a time when he's ready.

He made some nice offensive plays last night too. He just needs to play smarter in the defensive zone. If the support isn't there, then just chip it out.
- PhillySportsGuy

But if he does that, then we'll all complain about his CORSI rating and how he doesn't exit the zone with the puck.

Wasn't any worse then last nights pair of coburn and Macdonald.

I think Schenn gets overly picked on a lot of times from posters. We see what other draft picks have done so we expect more of him but he is what he is. A physicall stay at home dman who can make nice first pass. I think his physicall play would compliment Coburns skating better then what Macdonald does.

Conspiracy by the NHL with all these game jammed in a tight window. I say the Flyers play the season under protest.

Why can't the answer be

Streit coburn
Macdonald schenn
Grossman MDZ

If this were the SATs I'd skip the question. But this is my best answer

Thats exactly what I would do.....

Is everyone panicking about a game of pick up hockey with mostly a minor league squad?

That wasn't the case last year and this team did very little to improve their forwards. The gaps between the forwards and defenseman last night was horrendous. The Rangers could have had 8 goals last night if the Flyers didn't have their #1 goalie in net.

I said this last night, but the Flyers truly looked like the Oilers from the last few years.

I think everyone's getting a little carried away with these last couple preseason games. It doesn't hold much weight right now, either in a positive or negative light on these players. Let's pump the brakes, wait for the real show and stay the planned course with our prospects

I think the concern is having a bunch of #5 and #6 dmen patrolling the blueline.

Unfortunately I dont think that has anything to do with growing pains. I also remember the play.. and it would have been costly if Sinclair wasnt offside. However, that is part of the territory that comes with having an offensive d-man. The puck died on the ice and he lost control. It was a quirky play, but I dont think it was a growing pain.

His issues in my eyes are more along the lines of defensive positioning along the boards, and learning how to deal with big strong faster players. As soon as he gets the speed of the pro game down pat, and understands and develops a better way to play the board game I think he will come up.

However, he will always be a candidate for team lead in turnovers. Just how things go with offensive d-men.

- jak521

I mostly agree with you. But when he's near his own blueline, he needs to bear down on the puck. In college, he could take a second here and there to just kinda be loosey goosey with the puck because he was able to recover due to his natural skill. In the NHL, you need to be hard on the puck 100% of the time. Yes, there's times when the puck takes a funny bounce or hits a wet spot and dies, but I felt he could have controlled it better on that play.

But that's just one small play, and it's gonna happen every now and then. And yes, the major areas he needs to work on involve his play without the puck, mostly his decision making (time-related), his positioning, and his board battles. He'll never be the strongest player out there, but speed, positioning, and stick skills (plus a bit of a nasty streak) can help offset that.

Agree about ghost. Really excited to have him up here full time. I'm a little concerned but let's see the whole team together before we worry too much

I really don't care about the preseason. I don't think it says that much about anything. How many times have we seen players have great preseasons followed by lack luster regular seasons and vice versa? It's more about getting into game shape and team building than it is actual performance.

Yea, I mean I hate losing to the Rangers as much as anyone else but now isnt the time for revenge. relax. Most of the players we wont see hopefully in the NHL anytime soon and the vets could'nt care any less.

That's where I disagree. I would rate them as (6) 2nd pair defenders. maybe 3rd pair for Schenn and Del Zotto on a stacked team like St.Louis

I think MDZ is a 3rd pair player, maybe even a #7 on a stacked team. Schenn's a 5/6 guy. But, when you bring up St. Louis, they have 3 defenders that would be a huge upgrade to anyone on this team.
