talking about morin. i watched him pretty closely last night, and he was making smart, phyisical plays along the boards all night, winning puck battles and moving the puck well. i wasn't watching as closely when he was in the offensive zone.
- hammarby31

I didn't watch a lot of last night's game. But in the other games which I have watched, he seems almost panicky when he has it in the O-zone. He's perfectly fine getting the puck, but he seems a bit indecisive once he gets it. It feels like half the time he gets it and would prefer to just wrap it around deep.

He's also gotten beat by players changing speeds through the neutral zone. His positioning could stand to improve a bit.

What Hexy has to do is decide if he's going to do what's in the best interest of the team or of the young player. I haven't watched much of the games but it sounds like if we are being honest with ourselves ghost and Morin deserve a shot to start the season as the 3rd pairing.

IMO get Morin into some regular season games and send him down to the Q irregardless of how he performs and start Ghost in the A. Ghost could use work trying to separate forwards from the puck in his own end. Really he doesn't need a whole lot of work but just some details Murray can work with him on.

It's pretty obvious Ghost will see a significant amount of games in a flyer jersey this year, just start him in the A.

Kevin Smith movies, ranked:

1.) Dogma
2.) Clerks
3.) Chasing Amy
4.) Mallrats (I realize this is blasphemy to some...)
5.) Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (only really funny if you saw his other movies)
6.) Jersey Girl (not a typo...I kinda liked it. Don't judge me.)
7.) Clerks 2 (Eh. This movie probably should never have happened.)
8.) Red State (was this supposed to be scary? Meh)

- johndewar

My top 5 are exactly the same. Smith is one of my faves for sure. So weird to see Jay recently and realize man he is getting old

I don't think it's that obvious. He's getting played against guys who are CHL/AHL players the majority of the time he's out there. And he still has some issues to work on without the puck in the neutral/defensive zone. He's played well, but so did Jon Sim and Mika Pyorala.

Morin, I agree about the 9 games.

Slew foot? All I saw was a 6'6" traffic cone get dropped by a much stronger player who happens to be a foot shorter than him. Then proceed to act like a baby.

The risk outweighs the benefit. I want him to be ultra-confident going into his junior season. Say he gets burnt for goals 3 games in a row. How does it affect his confidence? Look what happened to Luke Schenn by playing him at 18.

The other side of the argument is - who sits? MDZ? Schenn? These are guys you're going to have to count on this year. I wouldn't have them riding the pine to start the year over a rookie who's going back to the Q anyway.

Only way he sticks is if Grossmann can't go or there is an injury in next couple of games.

I loved the whole comic book stuff in that movie. It's so dead on for the time. Have no idea what it's like now. I had/have a ton of friends in the industry.

Maybe. I lot of the jokes were inside jokes. My friends and I spent a lot of time hassling our inker friends over that movie.

Claude Giroux confirmed that he is a go for tonight's game against the Rangers. The Flyers captain said he would see about Thursday's preseason finale in Washington, while Flyers head coach Craig Berube said he'd like to get Giroux a second preseason game if possible.

Goaltender Ray Emery will get the start in goal and is slated to go the distance after Steve Mason played the entire game in New York last night and Rob Zepp played the full game in Newark on Sunday.

After the morning skate, Berube made some pointed comments about what he wants to see from his club over the next week. He said they are physically ready for opening night but also need to be mentally ready. The coach made no bones about the fact he is unhappy with the lack of competitiveness many of his veteran players have shown the last two games.

Berube said the club has not played a 200-foot game the last two nights. They have turned over too many pucks. They haven't been hungry enough for loose pucks, and haven't kept their feet moving. The coach said that things such as poor gap control and other bad habits can easily creep into the regular season unless the players go out and play the game properly day-in and day-out.

Part of being mentally ready to play, said Berube, is realizing there will be fallout from fans and media when things don't go well. He said his players must have the mental toughness to work through it and follow the right process for winning.

The coach reiterated that while there isn't too much to read into the preseason and that he dislikes the preseason schedule the team has had, there is no excuse for not competing. Berube said he wants his team's identity to be that of a strong puck possession team and a solid team at five-on-five -- and believes he has both the personnel and the means of getting better in those areas -- but it will only work if everyone commits themselves to it.

I agree that has been the case at times. But he played real well last night. And I think it's all part of the development process and hicups are expected. What I find impressive is the physical tools. with his long stride and reach, he can eat up ground in a hurry. Once he gets some experience and gets better at reads and positionally, I can envision him swallowing players up defensively the way Chara does in the D zone.

Some may feel that is being honest with themselves, but the reality is that neither Gostibehere or Morin are ready for full time duty on any pairing in the NHL at this point. I understand the excitement at the raw talent that they both have. But both need more developmental time. Gostisbehere isn't that far away, but he needs some AHL time. Morin probably another year in Juniors and an AHL year away.

This.

I know many of you are just hoping for no injuries, but they need to play better and get into the habit of playing structured hockey. I'd rather they rectify this issue now instead of trying to work it out once the season starts.

The results from the preseason don't matter, but the way they play does matter.

Oh, I agree 100%. Just stating that he's not exactly a finished product. He's looked good in the preseason, but unless he's looked exceptional (basically, if he was producing the offense that Ghost was, coupled with his defensive play) then he should be going back to the Q with between 0-9 games to start the season.

Absolutely. If they lose 6-3 in the preseason based on bounces and talent discrepancy, that's one thing. It's another thing to lose 6-3 because the effort isn't there, which was the case for the better part of last night. You don't need to go all-out and throw yourself in the way of injury, but there was too much coasting and standing around.

I really don't think either are very far away from being a top 6 dman on this current roster. I just think it's better for both of them to work through their kinks in the minors/juniors.

I think this is a big game for Morin. If he can show he fits with this lineup, he could get himself some regular season games. I think he goes back to Rimouski no matter what in the end.

There was too much "Well, this is preseason, so it doesn't matter if I try this now."

I want to see structure and good gap control. I don't care if they lose, I just don't want to see the Rags running around with all kinds of time and space like they did last night.

Gostibehere could be up this season, but I feel he needs at least a half season if not more in the AHL. I see Morin about two seasons away. And a possibility for 16/17.
