Yeah, a friend of mine in college tried to talk his..."irregular" friend out of taking out a $15K student loan to buy clothes and A&F/Hollister. Didn't work, and idiotic people are gonna do idiotic things. I know that parenting should be the #1 preventetive measure, but they can only go so far. I just think that when people are in a position of influence on children, they should take some responsibility for what they endorse.

For instance, after the first copy-cat Columbine killers struck, the media blasted Linkin Park and Disturbed (both of whom I hate, musically) for their destructive lyrics and blamed them for turning these lunatics into killers. Now, not to draw a direct comparison between the two, but I don't see the media really really digging hard against pop stars who are just as influential, if not more so, on young girls.

I agree to a certain extent, especially in what music is targeted. However, I think if we're going to place blame on these bands or any music, it would be infinitesimal compared to things like bad parenting, education, mental illness, etc. People with destructive thoughts listen to music with destructive lyrics. I think it would be rare for the music to cause people to act destructively. Same goes for pop music. Someone who already has the propensity to mismanage their finance would actual be influenced in some way by Katy Perry's song. Pop artist should at least be aware of the influence they have though.

Why limit the "fourth" line to a limited role, with limited players? Why load up on guys who do little more than "bring energy"? Energy is great, but you also need guys that can play. Look at LA or Chicago. They play their "fourth" line regularly, and have good players on those lines, because they're not hung up on energy guys.

If Rinaldo took the occasional penalty, it wouldn't be an issue. He takes a lot more than occasional penalties, based on how many minutes he plays.

How does one misuse a metaphor?
- jmatchett383

When your comparison fails (I realize my examples are similes, but they are in the metaphor family):

I will come at you like a dark horse (clearly not an underdog shown in other lyrics)

This love will make you levitate like a bird (birds do not levitate)

That's my point exactly. Akeson played one game in 2013, looked solid and scored a goal. he didn't get another sniff until the end of the next season and played very solidly again. Gustafsson got chances, but if he had a bad game or made a mistake, he was sitting out the next night. In the case of Rinaldo, he put the team shorthanded for 7 minutes less than two minutes into the first, yet dressed the next night and played 10 minutes.

I get that Akeson isn't a prototypical 4th liner, but there were times where Berube shifted Rinaldo up to Couturier's line...why not try Akeson there? A guy who has produced in the AHL and shown legitimate progress after being sent to the ECHL, rather than a guy who has had NHL opportunity for 3 years and shown little improvement as a player.

In a way, it seems like Rinaldo is the golden child of the family who gets everything handed to him on a silver platter causing the other kids to get the shaft. Physicality is a hallmark of "Flyers hockey" so the loose cannon gets fawned over more than the less physical, skilled guys.

Bollig played 10 minutes a night at ES last season. He scored more points, had similar possession numbers and took fewer penalties. Bollig isn't as prone to reckless play as Carcillo, either.

Carcillo has also been a better player than Rinaldo over the course of his career, based on offensive production and his possession stats show that when he played for both LA and Chicago, he largely bought in and played a more controlled game.

Carcillo has also been a little used guy when he was with LA and Chicago. He played 26 games as a King and 51 games over two seasons as a Blackhawk. Rinaldo has played 66, 32(out of 48) and 67 games over his Flyers career.

If I remember correctly, there are only 2 "ironic" things in that song (the dude who finally gets on the plane, and...something else). I don't think anything mentioned in the chorus is actually ironic.

They had to. It's not like UFA's were flocking there for the nice weather or for a Cup run.

The original argument for a salary cap was that teams like Tampa Bay couldn't make ends meet when they had a $35mm payroll. Now teams must have a mandatory $51mm minimum payroll

I think the No Smoking sign on your cigarette break is ironic, but I'm not sure. Also, why are you taking your cigarette break in a place that has a No Smoking sign?

Again, the players fought for a fixed-cap structure, and the owners fought tooth and nail for it to be tied to HRR.

If she wanted an accurate name for the song it should have been called "Bummer".
