Not at all. It's the massive amount of fat around your torso that makes you look fat

To clarify, you're saying we lost because Claude Giroux specifically didn't try hard enough?

The answer will have no effect on my feel. I'm just making sure I understand you.

Well, that's kind of what we're wondering. The coaches obviously feel that he has SOMETHING to offer the team (based on the players available to them). Many of us just aren't sold that what he brings makes them a better team when he's in the lineup compared to other options. So, without being in front-office meetings, it's conceivable (but hopefully wrong) that the organization wants to dress an "untalented goon" for some reason.
- jmatchett383

Nothing wrong with not being sold. I'm not sold either. I'm just willing to remain objective and see what happens in the clean slate of a new season.

Then no you do not understand me. I was simply using that microcosm to make my earlier point, in that the team that wanted it more won.

Actually, it was the deeper, better coached team that won.

He can be released. My thinking is bringing in more talent. People talk about not having guys like Stortini, Rosehill, Rinaldo yet when another option is presented then we try to find another reason. I know Powe is AHL. We also have guys like Laurdison, Manning, Konan. Maybe Elliot can bring more than what we have. Yes he might have to pass waivers again but maybe we are the only team interested. I just think it is worth a shot to see if uo can bring in some more talent.
- J35Bacher

I don't think he can be "released" either. This isn't the NFL, and the team can't just cut him. All they could do would be to make him an AHL healthy scratch and play others in his place.

No, peanut butter and marshmallows are mutually exclusive. You just grill Fluff between two slices of bread. What am I 4?

Really? A top four of McDonagh, Staal, Girardi and Stralman wasn't better and deeper than the Flyers top four of AMac, Coburn, Streit and 39 year old Timonen?

What timeframe for each of these players are you getting these hits/PIM numbers from? Also, I'm fairly sure that, over that time frame, Carcillo scored more (slightly more, but still more). Also, Carcillo racked up the PIM is fights and misconducts and didn't leave his team shorthanded as much as Rinaldo. Carcillo also played more minutes than Zac did (presumably) so their PIM/60 minutes is probably closer than raw data.

Rinaldo's, when he was 24 - last year
Carcillo, is 29 now - 5 years ago when he was 24.

Those Carcillo numbers were when he was a Flyer. Maybe it's just me, but I remember him as having very poor timing on penalties. Many Carcillo's penalties were just dumb. Rinaldo on the other hand plays at one speed, fast and hitting - penalties are going to be called if the hit is late or fails to hit properly.

Bottom line, who's to argue with Lappy. Love'd him as a player, and trust his gut on Rinaldo.

I loved Berube as a player too, but that doesn't mean he's infallible in player evaluation as a coach.

So hitting late or improperly and getting penalties for it isn't dumb somehow? Especially when it's repeated over and over?

Wayne Gretzky was an awesome player, couldn't coach worth a poop. Lappy's far from a proven coach, much as I like the guy.

And forward depth. Top-6 for top-6, we matched them well. Bottom-6, they were better.

The real problem was that their team played a more cohesive game, where all 5 players played a system. With the Flyers, the forwards played one system and the defense played another one. There was no support, and our defense got exploited. That, to me, was the issue.

Deeper team overall. The blueline depth is just one example.

The Flyers were/are a mediocre 5 on 5 team. They live and die on special teams. New York was better at 5 on 5 all year, as well as in the playoffs. That was in part because they had useful, effective players on their fourth line.

Guys like Brian Boyle and Dominic Moore, and to be quite honest, Carcillo and Dorsett, who were a lot more effective than the Flyers energy players

Here's something: s'mores but made in the microwave. Delicious although you don't get the smokey flavor.
