Just because I'm in agreement with the organiztion's decision doesn't make all other options null and void.
- JoeRussomanno

But you just said it would be a good idea to not have Rinaldo, minutes after saying it was a good idea to have him. Or are you on the fence and just choosing to vehemently argue one side?

Exactly, and the entire point of the discussion is that some of us strongly disagree with the team's decision in this instance.

I don't like his contract extension. I don't like the coach repeatedly saying he expects Rinaldo to have a bigger role. I don't like an unskilled plug like Rinaldo getting opportunity after opportunity when skilled guys, who can actually play hockey get buried after one bad game.

If you think it's overblown, great, ignore the conversation. I find it annoying that the Flyer seem to still value carrying an untalented player and repeatedly give him opportunities despite his flaws, when skilled guys get buried or allowed to jet off to the KHL because the coach decided to bench them after a bad shift

- Jsaquella

But, you know...he tries really, really hard.

One still competed harder.

I think to conclude that the Rangers won either exclusively or mostly because they gave more effort would be incorrect, and an oversimplification.

Yea it's ok as Conan kill is much more refined... But to your original hyborean point, the Sorbo movie should have been Conan hour of the dragon; with some minor plot deviations of course.

Why not move on and give fresh blood an opportunity? Let Laughton center the 4th line, with two decent linemates, so he's not stuck dragging Rinaldo or Rosehill around every night for 6 minutes.

He's likely to make the team now, and he'll get to play on an energy line with poor players. Welcome to the NHL kid. You had more talented linemates in Junior, but go out and wow us!

- Jsaquella

It's funny that we're even having a day's long argument about Rinaldo. Most team would have dropped in by now. Players like him usually don't stay in one place for long given their expendable nature.

So you're saying, after 82 games, we can all make a final judgement on whether he can provide more than a PIM magnet who hits a lot?

Yeah...I'd go with a superior defensive corps, a better team-wide commitment to defense, exploiting the Flyers' weakness better than was done to them, and getting timely scoring.

Or, it could be because the Flyers were lazy.

Absolutely. It's a shame how bad that Sorbo movie was. I mean, hell, it even had Akivasha in it, could have EASILY been HOTD. Word is the new Conan with Arnold will be based on it, so I'm hopeful.

It is kind of funny, but what else is there to discuss? Me, I'm killing time until the bus drops off the kids.

No, I'm just not 100% sure what "Thats a feel thing, and a personal decision." A feel thing and personal decision for Rinaldo by you, is what I'm guessing. You then go to say, that you want to see what he does after this year, and then judge him. So I assumed it meant that you wanted to wait until the end of the year and then judge him.

I've had a slow day at work so I don't mind. As long as the discussion keeps going. I'll discuss anything when it gets this slow.

To this point, Rinaldo has been a 4th line player, who was used briefly on the PK, and has played a limited role, in limited minutes. But let's get all fired up over what has just been talk!
And then the hyperbole comes in, such as he's untalented. That lacks objectivity. He is not the most skilled player , but he does have some talent in the physical areas of the game. And the Coaches who watch him in practice day in and day out, see something in him that they want to try and develop. Or is it that the Flyers just want to keep an untalented goon around, who has no value to the team?

There's also a telephone pole down nearby, so I have no TV. I'm only able to get on line with my iPod's 3G. This whole day is basically like watching The English Patient.

I even went grocery shopping because I was so damned bored

To clarify, you're saying we lost because Claude Giroux specifically didn't try hard enough?

Great to see Bellemare back in the lineup. He looked good in London, hope to see more of the same.

No I did not say I want to see what he does after this year, and then judge him. I'm going to wait and see how he plays during the season and evaluate his progress. I can't give you a date and time for when I'll come to a final conclusion. Nor am I willing to tell anyone else when they should come to a conclusion. Hence the statement that it is a feel thing and a personal decision. Pretty simply. Right now, I'm willing to be open minded, and see what happens, and to give it a chance.

Well, that's kind of what we're wondering. The coaches obviously feel that he has SOMETHING to offer the team (based on the players available to them). Many of us just aren't sold that what he brings makes them a better team when he's in the lineup compared to other options. So, without being in front-office meetings, it's conceivable (but hopefully wrong) that the organization wants to dress an "untalented goon" for some reason.

Powe is signed to an AHL contract. He can't be waived.
- MJL

He can be released. My thinking is bringing in more talent. People talk about not having guys like Stortini, Rosehill, Rinaldo yet when another option is presented then we try to find another reason. I know Powe is AHL. We also have guys like Laurdison, Manning, Konan. Maybe Elliot can bring more than what we have. Yes he might have to pass waivers again but maybe we are the only team interested. I just think it is worth a shot to see if uo can bring in some more talent.
