I'd imagine he'd be pretty upset, but management did promise that people would have to earn their roster spots on the ice. Last year, they said the same thing, and then just went with the vets on game one, regardless of how everyone played in the pre season. Will they do the same thing again?

what sent a clear message was when Nonis wouldn't play Tim Connolly and got rid of Mike Komisarek... and while Holzer, Mike Kostka wasn't great... it was certainly better than watching Komisarek flop around.

generally... everyone complains about the Leafs defense... and I would have to vehemently disagree with MikeA's assertion that Talinder had "outplayed" Percy, Granberg etc.

I can't think if any occasion where I saw Talinder do something positive that the kids hadn't done as well. The notion that an older guy, who's clearly lost a step (or two or three) is better simply because he's older is flawed.

The kids are much more likely to err, and listen to suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Carlyle seemed to think that Tallinder was providing stability and expertise on the blueline, something that Percy and Granberg cannot right now. The Leafs have enough offense first blue liners and need to balance that out with stay-at-home guys and after watching Holzer in 2013 and training camp, it's obvious that he cannot handle that job.
