Not female doging. But someone please explain how jasen Schwartz comes in at 2.35 on a 2 yr deal and we are paying b schenn 2.5.

J Schwartz. Same age. Drafted a year later in the first round. Put up 56 pts last year for an elite team. I scratched my head a bit when we were so quick to get b schenn done. Maybe the flyers just don't want to hardball their players like the blues and rangers but we could've saved 200-500 on the cap if Hexy took a harder stance

How much was his entry level deal?

The difference is 150K a year. And obviously, other teams such as the Blues are just better at these things then the Flyers are! Imagine what the Flyers could've done with that extra 150K this year!

Take the theory and apply it to 25 players and you'll see results. Blues signed a better player to a cheaper deal all things being equal for the most part

This is a good point

At 1st whistle in 3rd period's final seven minutes, manpower will switch to new AHL overtime format (4-on-4, then 3-on-3).

So the Blues have 25 players signed to deals that are less then if the Flyers would've have signed a similar player?

Let's look at Wayne Simmonds deal, who is one of the top RW in the League who is signed to a deal for under 4M. Or Jake Voracek, who this year might elevate into the elite is signed for under 4M. Or that the Flyers had an elite player, and a Hart Trophy finalist, who was one of the top overall scorers in the League the past 4 years, playing on a contract for under 4M

To be fair, Shwartz's entry level deal was significantly lower than B Schenn. That has to have been a factor. Schenn's cap hit actually went down, so in that light it was a better deal.

Crosby has that distinction. Dude could be making well over $10M annual.

Saw this on HFB.

Schwartz
Drafted 1st round, 14th overall in 2010
Recorded 25 goals and 56 points in 82 NHL games last season
34 goals, 38 assists, 72 points in 134 career NHL games (0.25 G/GP, 0.54 P/GP)
Signs bridge deal of 2 years @ $2.35M per year

Johansen
Drafted 1st round, 4th overall in 2010
Recorded 33 goals and 63 points in 82 NHL games last season
47 goals, 49 assists, 96 points in 189 career NHL games (0.25 G/GP, 0.51 P/GP)
Asked for as much as $6.80M per year on a 2 year bridge deal

Crosby has that distinction. Dude could be making well over $10M annual.

There's some major recapture penalties if he isn't healthy into his late 30s, though.

Well, Holmgren singed an elite defensive center and one of the best penalty killers in the NHL to a deal for $600 K less than Schwartz, so that whole apply it to 25 guys isn't actually true.

The Flyers issue isn't usually when they sign guys to bridge deals or deals covering a player's last few RFA and first few UFA years. The issue comes when they over pay guys who are UFAs or heading into UFA.

That's part of the reason I'm happy Hextall stayed out of the market this year.

I still cringe when guys are so conditioned to dump the puck, they do so when a defender isn't within three strides -- I'm not saying you have to split defenders, turn a d-man, every single time, but come on. It's OK to carry the puck in the zone, even if you lose it from time to time, rather than just dumping it and hoping you get it back

Even if you are an elite defensive forward, your not making much money in this league if your not proving you can play on a scoring line. Coots has a lot to prove if he wants to make real coin. I generally agree with your statement though. But looking at B Schenn's deal, thought they could have squeezed that deal more
